A Heart That Fears, A Love That Endures
Summary: You, a timid yet determined spiritfarer, have long harbored feelings for Childe but are too afraid of rejection to confess. After weeks of anxiety (and some unhelpful commentary from the spirit sealed in your tail), you finally muster the courage to admit your feelings. To your surprise, Childe not only reciprocates but had planned to confess first. What started as a nerve-wracking moment turns into something warm, reassuring, and the beginning of something beautiful.

The night air in Liyue was crisp, the harbor bathed in the soft glow of lanterns. You clutched the edge of your sleeves tightly, tail twitching anxiously as you stole glances at the man beside you. Childe walked with his usual ease, hands in his pockets, a warm grin playing on his lips.
"You've been acting strange today, little fox," he mused, tilting his head toward you. "Something on your mind?"
You squeaked—an actual squeak—before shaking your head frantically. "N-No! Nothing! Everything is fine! Ha-ha!"
Tail scoffed inside your mind. "Pathetic. Just tell him already."
You bit your lip. Of course, you wanted to tell him. You’d spent weeks agonizing over this—writing and rewriting confessions, rehearsing in front of a mirror (which resulted in you scaring yourself), and even consulting exorcism manuals as if they held the secret to love.
But what if he rejected you?
What if he laughed?
What if—Archons forbid—he disappeared and never spoke to you again?
Your heart pounded as Childe suddenly leaned closer, voice laced with amusement. "Are you scared of me, or is there a ghost hovering behind me?"
"Uwah—!" You jumped, fur standing on end. "N-No ghosts! Just, um, nerves!"
"Aw, you're adorable when you're nervous," he chuckled, then softened. "You know you can tell me anything, right?"
You squeezed your eyes shut. Okay. Now or never.
"I—I like you!" The words burst out in a high-pitched squeal before you clamped your hands over your mouth. Your tail flicked wildly, the talisman attached to it fluttering. You barely registered Tail groaning inside your head, muttering about your disgraceful delivery.
Silence.
You cracked one eye open, terrified of what you might see.
Childe blinked, his expression unreadable for a moment before his lips stretched into the biggest, brightest grin you’d ever seen.
"Well, what do you know?" He let out a soft chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck. "I was planning to confess first, but you beat me to it."
Your ears perked up. "W-Wait… what?"
Childe laughed, reaching out to ruffle your hair. "I like you too, little fox. Have for a while now."
You froze, processing his words. Then—
"EEEEH?! REALLY?!"
"Yes, really." He smirked, clearly enjoying your flustered state. "Did you think I'd reject you?"
You nodded frantically.
"Not a chance," he said, tapping your forehead gently. "You're brave, y'know? Even when you're scared, you keep moving forward. That’s something I really admire about you."
You swayed slightly, overwhelmed by the warmth in his voice. Your heart still raced, but this time, it wasn’t from fear—it was from happiness.
Tail sighed. "Finally. Took you long enough."
Childe arched an eyebrow. "You talking to your tail again?"
You sputtered. "H-He's talking to me first!"
Childe shook his head with a chuckle, then reached out, fingers brushing against your hand. "Come on, let’s go watch the lanterns. I can think of no better way to celebrate our new relationship, don’t you?"
Your cheeks burned, but for once, your fear didn't hold you back.
