they’re parallels your honor!! owen sees himself in avid and despises it, avid has to face his own issues in the shape of someone else. they’ve been butting heads since literally the beginning of the series and started out with polar opposite views, and while avid threw himself wholeheartedly into his new circumstances, owen kept clinging to the past.
I also have a post about them. Momma bear Owen is my favorite version/interpretation of him cuz he does care, all the pieces are there. Let him be protective and tsundere about it :3

They’re two sides of the same coin, essentially the same backstory except swapped!!! “You’re just a kid” BROKE ME. Owen understood his pain, and the fact that he only killed Avid because he ‘didn’t like him’? It’s cause he saw himself in Avid, saw himself in the weak fledgling, saw the part he hated about himself!! AND Avid siphoned off Owen in patreon!!!
GUYS GUYS HEAR ME OUT GUYS PUT DOWN THE PITCHFORKS: narrative foils. The drama. The intrigue!! Especially in AUs where Owen mentored Avid as he became a vampire…. It delights the senses
They're foils, they're enemies, they hate each other, they mirror each other. Owen would invent new stages of grief once he realises he has feelings for Avid. Avid is desperate for Owen's approval once he's part of the coven, secretly hoping that he'll manage to somehow bury the animosity and actually get close to him. That somehow he can make this work. Owen killing the person he's fallen for because it should've been Louis and no one else. When he drives the stake in, it's the closest they've ever been

This is only in my head, in which Scott knew Louis as a fledgeling and so Owen uses him as a fucked up 'closest thing to what's left of louis' consolation prize. Scott is fully aware, but he doesn't care about it much (apathy is one hell of a thing) and kinda just goes along with it for the sake of keeping Owen loyal.
Being evil together/co parenting the fledglings is such a vibe, also ✨I present you✨ all the fanfics where Scott fledgling adopts Owen

Owen has so much devotion held within him, and it delights me to think of how Scott would utilize that kind of undying loyalty and adoration. Owen would be the best attack dog and so so sweet for Scott, and Scott could give Owen all the love and affection he craves. Yes it's partially a manipulation tactic but that's what makes it even more delicious
Au where Scott Goldsmith was never put to sleep. 400 Years later he still rules over Oakhurst from a distance (with a vampire he sired acting as the mayor)
One day a sickly lumberjack is abducted from his home by fearful townspeople and brought before Scott as a sacrifice, but Scott becomes very endeared to this cynical human (Owen)
Also, Louis shows up to frantically explain to his sire that he really likes Owen and could he please not kill this one
