General Hux / First Order Officer Grade Blaster Tutorial
*This was a fun thing I did btw I’m obviously not a professional*
Step 1: Buy the Nerf gun that most closely resembles the SE-44C (this one was about £15 on Amazon)
Step 2: Find yourself a nice reference picture (courtesy of some lovely person who scanned the visual dictionary)
Step 3: Use sandpaper to get rid of those pesky warnings (luckily most of them are only on one side). The Star Wars logo is on both sides and will require significant force to smooth down
Step 4: Spray all over with a few layers of grey primer (I left the inside of the barrel orange to comply with con weapon regulations) (I also detached the viewfinder and sprayed that separately)
Step 5: Use masking tape to cover the areas you want to stay grey and then use your black spray paint. I did two or three coats and removed the tape after the paint had dried
Step 6: Repeat for the silver panel and don’t worry about the screws for now because it’s easier to paint them by hand
Step 7: Reattach the viewfinder and add details to the silver panel and paint the screws to match the ones in the reference picture (ignore my crappy fake paper screws - I was too lazy to use real ones!). Now you can touch up any mistakes too (I used acrylics and Sharpie)
Step 8: To add some light weathering and to bring out the grooves I used a black acrylic wash on the grey areas. I also used a bit of white paint to make the features on the black part look less flat. You can also add a layer of clear matte spray to finish it off.
I’m fairly happy with it but I’m tempted to fill in the holes and I’ll replace the fake paper screws with real ones at some point in the near future. The grey colour I used was way too light but I don’t think I’ll change that because it looks pretty ok with the weathering.
