I seriously Love this compilation. Daehwi means a lot to me. He’s actually my favourite performer! He deserves all the Love and more. 💜

Warning at the end it does get really loud. But this person posts strictly Daehwi stuff and I’m subscribed to them and if you like Daehwi then I think you should too! (Or at least check it out, their channel)

[Review] LABOUM - Hwi Hwi

I wanted to start this blog with a group that I’m becoming really interested in. I can’t say I’m a fan of Laboum (Not a ‘Latte’ by any means) but I’m excited whenever they comeback. They always deliver good music, refreshing concepts and fun music videos, and ‘Hwi Hwi’ wasn’t an exception.

First of all, let’s talk about the song itself. While I wouldn’t say this is their best song (it’s between ‘Aalow Aalow’ and ‘Shooting Love’ for me) it’s still a great pop song. The song starts with the already catchy shouts and whistles that catch your attention immediately and invite you to keep listening. 

While the verses aren’t anything new and the pre-chorus is kinda busy with 2 voices in it, it goes well into the chorus, the part that stands out the most definitely. The beat becomes stronger in it and adds an edge that the verses didn’t have, the harmonies sound amazing and the ‘Miss this kiss’ lyric stays in your head really easily. 

One thing I loved about this song are the transitions. The ‘let’s get a little wicked’ lyric at the end of the pre-chorus works surprisingly well and the whistles between the chorus and the verses are effective too.

The second verse removes half of the first one and it’s a really smart decision since with that part the song could have stalled a bit, since the song relies solely on the chorus to keep your attention. The second chorus doesn’t change anything and goes right into a really basic but effective bridge that doesn’t last too long and ends with a nice high note. 

The song ends with the last chorus with some ad-libs that make it a little more interesting and with the catchy whistle, finishing it strong and not abruptly.

The music video and the concept aren’t anything new and has been done before many times, but it works well with LABOUM, whose weak point is definitely not the visuals. All 6 of them look incredible (with Solbin, ZN and Haein standing out for me) and the MV is really entertaining in the end. Also it’s impressive that the MV is available at 2160p even though I can’t watch it on that quality anyways, but it’s a nice little thing.

The choreography in the verses didn’t seem anything outstanding but the chorus dance works really well and the ‘Miss this kiss’ move is definitely a good point dance for the song. I also appreciated that they didn’t rely on a whistle movement as the point dance since it would have been really predictable.

In the end, this comeback was a success for me, the song a well-made pop song even though it didn’t bring anything new to the table, the concept works perfectly for LABOUM and I’m happy that they are selling well with this LABOUM since it was about time people noticed this amazing group.
