lazy comfortable earth tones

does your muse spend a lot of time on their outfit and appearance? how long do they spend getting ready in the morning?

absolutely not. toph has never cared much about her appearance for obvious reasons. there are times where she feels more self conscious than usual, but at the end of the day she’s never known what she looks like and that’s just something they live and deal with.

does your muse consider the way they dress to be trendy? would other people agree?

literally no clue. toph would say it’s trendy just because they assume they’re always going to be cool, but realistic she just doesn’t know. i would say for the vibe toph goes for it could definitely be seen as trendy/

how often do they buy new clothes? are they the type to keep a outfit for years or replace it after one wear?

rarely. toph will absolutely wear clothes until they’re falling apart and then finally admit she needs new ones.

is your muse the type to accessorize? how much?

not much. their hair is often up because vision or not the feeling of it on her neck is terrible and inconvenient, so sometimes there’s a headband or scrunchie, and toph will appreciate a hat here and there, but that’s usually it. there’s also the bracelet she made herself with meteor rock that toph wears all the time.

how much time do they spend on skin care/makeup/grooming?

zero to none. toph washes their face before going to sleep, but sometimes that does just mean splashing some water on themselves and calling it a day.

if money and societal expectations were not a concern would your muse dress differently than they currently do? if so, how?

maybe just a bit more similar to how they dressed back home. it’s hard for toph to find similar clothes here, which s the real problem though. money and confidence are certainly not stopping her.

would your muse wear the same outfit two days in a row if they knew they wouldn’t run into any of the same people?

toph would wear the same outfit for a week in a row well knowing they’re going to see people the fuck?

toph wears stuff that’s more typical for washington rather than what she was wearing back home. it’s just easier to find, and honestly toph doesn’t mind the transition. there are a lot of comfortable clothes here, and since she isn’t fighting every day she doesn’t need to worry as much about wrapping herself

my added general description.

i made this edit pretty easily, and then got to these questions and lost my mind a little bit because, toph is obviously blind, and looks rarely concern her. toph knows how to make themselves look good, or at least societally acceptable, as a result of how she was born, but it’s not something toph cares about doing unless absolutely required. toph prioritizes comfort above all else, and being able to move easily in whatever she’s wearing. toph still does a decent amount of fighting and bending in the city, so full mobility is absolutely key. it’s mostly going to be a lazy girl vibe or workout clothes. toph is also particular to being bare footed so that she can use her earthbending on the ground, but since that’s not super acceptance she has shoes with the bottoms taken out, so it appears like they’re wearing shoes but the soles of their feet are still on the ground. toph tends to stick to greens and browns, not that she knows what they look like, but toph knows those are earth tones, and needs to represent her likes. she’s definitely sensitive to textures and sticks to simple cotton as much as possible. there is definitely some amount of tearing or dirt on just about all their clothes because of just how rough and tumblr they tend to be. it’s inevitable no matter how often things are washed.

though costume concerns are a thing of the past with october turning to november, many people in the city still wind up worrying about what they look like every single day they go out. it’s all too easy to say that looks don’t matter when thinking about yourself or a friend, but for many people a glimpse of someone’s outfit as they pass them by on the street may be the only way they know this person at all. as fall pushes on into the lull of winter it just makes sense to take advantage of the slower times and reflect on how you look each and every day. who knows, maybe you’ll come to the early decision to completely reinvent yourself next year, at least on the outside anyway.

with fall and the cold in full swing we wanted to give you all a nice little task to work on! this will be similar to tasks we’ve done in the past in terms of what you have to do, but with a different focus to mix things up and keep everything fresh. there are so many wonderful aspects about everyone’s muses to learn about, and this time around we will be focusing in on your muses outfits and how they dress themselves!

-similar to the task focused on muses’ homes, this task will include two parts, a visual aesthetic/edit and a written part. though there is a lot of freedom with both aspects we’d love to see you implement some form of both of them when doing the task!

- the visual aspect should be some sort of graphic that includes several pictures that give an idea of how your muse dresses from day to day. this graphic can be done however you’d like! if you’d like to provide nine pictures in a moodboard format that would be great or you are of course welcome to find a fun template to work with for this. some starting template ideas can be found here: x, x, x, and x. if you need any help with getting an idea for how to format things or finding a template don’t hesitate to reach out to the main!

- for the written part we have once again provided questions, though how much you follow them is entirely up to you. if you would prefer to copy and paste the questions and write your separate answers you’re welcome to, or if you’d like to use them as a guideline to write up a paragraph talking about how your muse dresses, or even finding some middle ground between the two that is all completely up to you! please write up whatever you want to share and definitely do not feel constricted by the questions below!

wei wuxian-- task 10: fashion and appearance (14/14!!!!)

nothing gives me more pleasure than imagining modern wei wuxian. i will begin by stating that. 

wuxian does own clothes that aren’t some combination of red and black, but they’re few and far between, and the ones that aren’t are mostly because they’re blue denim, like his worn denim jacket. he can’t afford a lot of brand names, so it’s mostly thrifted and well-loved clothes that fill his closet. 

he’ll wear nicer trousers to his music lessons, so the kids’ parents don’t think he’s a total mess-- he’s got a few pairs of favorite ones, like the red plaid pair up top. with them, he’ll wear a plain button up-- though he always rolls up the sleeves-- or another plain style shirt. when he’s not working, he leans towards casual streetwear, either baggier pants or tight skinny jeans full of rips along the knees. his shoes vary between sneakers and his black boots, all of which have seen better days. he does not currently accessorize, though he did keep his red ribbon after he cut his hair, because he felt vaguely sentimental about it. it’s currently buried under a pile of dirty clothes on his dresser somewhere.

he has the same three or four outfits that he prefers and that are in regular rotation despite having other clothes in the closet. wuxian thinks he’s too old to care about what’s cool, so he mostly doesn’t bother trying to follow trends (though he’s usually accidentally trendy anyway), and he really wouldn’t dress much differently if he did have the money to spend. 

he’s unaware now, but he filled his closet with these sorts of fashions earlier when he was aware, so it’s pretty safe to say that he prefers these to his clothes from back home-- though his trademark colors remain mostly steady.

Clara Oswald : Fashion Moodboard

does your muse spend a lot of time on their outfit and appearance? how long do they spend getting ready in the morning?

i’d like to think clara spends a reasonable amount of time getting ready. she likes to make herself presentable, do her hair, apply her make-up that, sort of thing. she is definitely the type that showers in the morning too so on those days it definitely adds time. but she also is the type to plan her outfit for the next day, the night before.

does your muse consider the way they dress to be trendy? would other people agree?

i don’t think other people would call clara’s style trendy, but i think clara would consider her style trendy. not because she thinks she has great style, but because clara most definitely shops at like target and old navy and like large generic retail stores so if it’s ‘in-style’ enough to be at one of those stores then she considers that to be like... trendy. although, she does put her own spin on things, she has a whole drawer filled with collars she can add under shirts & sweaters. she is the collar queen.

how often do they buy new clothes? are they the type to keep a outfit for years or replace it after one wear?

not very often, clara buys clothes that will last for a reason. i feel like she got into the habit of also bulk buying clothes, aka if she likes one sweater she’ll get it in a bunch of different colors and that way if one got ruined while she was on another planet...she had another one back at home. and that thinking probably didn’t stop when she came to washington.

is your muse the type to accessorize? how much?

clara loves a good collar, and like i said before she has a drawer full of them. i think they add her own personal touch to her outfits and makes it feel like more of an expression of herself, and also kind of became her like ‘staple’ piece. but she does wear some small jewelry, with wear a hat every now and then. but she’s not one to go over the top or try anything crazy.

how much time do they spend on skin care/makeup/grooming?

clara loves a good bath & a book, but other than that she doesn’t spend too much time. she keeps her make up pretty minimal and light and at this point has a routine down for it that it probably doesn’t take her too long. she has a shower schedule that she sticks to very rigidly and probably has a box full of those $1 face masks that she’ll throw on from time to time to feel special.

if money and societal expectations were not a concern would your muse dress differently than they currently do? if so, how?

I don’t think clara’s style would change all that much either way.

would your muse wear the same outfit two days in a row if they knew they wouldn’t run into any of the same people?

depending on the outfit, yes. she has and doesn’t mind repeating outfits but she also is someone who would iron a sweater before wearing it because it has a crease from being folded or something. so if her clothes got wrinkled, she wouldn’t wear it again unless she could tidy them up a bit. but if it’s just like a sweatshirt & jeans she’ll re-wear those probably multiple days if she can stretch it out that long.

I would say that clara has started dressing a bit differently but only because her wardrobe has gotten a revamp in the sense that what she used to wear was ‘in fashion’ in like 2015 and so now she is more so wearing outfits that are in fashion in this year. but i think this transition is happening slowly, because she still wears outfits that look like something you pinned on the first day of starting your pinterest in your peak swiftie tumblr girl phase.

Loki Laufeyson - Wardrobe Aesthetic

Chic, simple, elegant, clean, classic

does your muse spend a lot of time on their outfit and appearance? how long do they spend getting ready in the morning?

Loki does put a lot of effort into his appearance and how he comes across. He doesn’t have a lot of control over a lot of things like his emotions and his fate but he can control how he looks. It doesn’t take him too long in the morning to get ready, because he plans what he wears in the evening. At most like ten to twenty minutes to get his hair right and slicked back. 

does your muse consider the way they dress to be trendy? would other people agree

He could call himself classic rather than trendy. He stands out already so he might as well dress how he wants. Thor makes fun of him sometimes. Not sure about others. Many say he dresses well. 

how often do they buy new clothes? are they the type to keep a outfit for years or replace it after one wear?

Not very often. He likes his his classics and has a few staple pieces. He is still getting used to his midgardian clothes. Even though they are more comfortable than his asgardian silks.

Not at all really. He has a watch and the occasional scarf but he is very simple.

twenty to thirty minutes. He is clean shaven and his hair slicked back. The hair takes some time in the morning.

Not really. He has enough money and if he wants something he uses his illusions to put it on.

Probably. His wardrobe is pretty much all the same so who can tell the difference.

Very much so. He changed out of the dirty clothes given to him by the TVA and out of his silks to a modern, midgardian look. It was difficult because he didn’t feel as important or regal without his asgardian clothes.  But now not being within the TVA he can dress more as himself.

she thinks everything she does is the best way to do that thing, so yes. as for other people, probably? she dresses like someone off witchtok so like...

bella is rich, and definitely goes shopping decently often, though she also keeps outfits for a long time if she likes them

probably longer than she should, because now that she’s young and pretty again, she has a lot of vanity from when azkaban fucked up her face

definitely not. bella has never really been one to care much, and only adhered to pureblood standards because of her family. but now her style is fairly accepted among most people, so it doesn’t matter

no lol. maybe months later she’d wear the exact same thing, but she won’t even repeat shoes or a shirt two days in a row

a little bit? she isn’t bound by pureblood values anymore, so she shows a lot more skin than the full length dresses she wore back home, but the vibes are the same as they were in england, just updated for modern america

Unremarkable; forgettable above all else.

Usually around forty-five seconds, and most of that’s waiting for enough water to fall in the shower. If he didn’t have superspeed, he would still only take around twenty minutes at most; he doesn’t have many clothes, they essentially all go with each other, and they’re all laid out very neatly. His biggest time expenditure is taking a longer shower every few days (five whole minutes instead of thirty seconds) because he’s paranoid about his downstairs neighbors thinking he doesn’t shower.

does your muse consider the way they dress to be trendy? would other people agree?

Clark and his Ma designed his entire wardrobe to convey a message, and that message is “wow is this guy boring.” He isn’t noticeably unstylish, he isn’t noticeably stylish; he just isn’t noticeable. If other people bothered to look at him, they’d probably agree.

how often do they buy new clothes? are they the type to keep a outfit for years or replace it after one wear?

Clark lost his entire wardrobe on arrival except for the suit (and the Suit) he’d been wearing, so he’s been doing a fair bit of thrifting. Once he’s got a modest wardrobe together he replaces items only as needed. He’s gotten quite good at small repairs like sewing buttons (having to rip off your shirt several times a day helps give occasion to practice), but it’s the rare piece of clothing that lasts more than two years without getting stained, ripped, or torn somehow in the course of his day.

is your muse the type to accessorize? how much?

He typically carries around a beat-up messenger type bag with essentials in it (see below), and of course the glasses almost never leave his face. Back home in the wintertime he’d occasionally show one (1) scrap of personality by wearing a scarf or two that Ma knit for him over his Unremarkable Winter Jacket, but the scarves didn’t make the trip. He misses them.

how much time do they spend on skin care/makeup/grooming?

A few minutes to heat-vision off stubble every few days. Clark considers himself lucky his hair doesn’t grow quickly, because if ‘shaving’ is a little tricky, haircuts are a whole entire Mess. One time in high school he accidentally gave himself a mullet and almost burned the house down because he couldn’t figure out the right angle for the multiple mirrors to get to the back of his head.

if money and societal expectations were not a concern would your muse dress differently than they currently do? if so, how?

If fashion wasn’t one of his most important tools in keeping his secret, he wouldn’t mind experimenting a little more. ‘Experimenting’ for him would be wearing some actual bright colors, or letting himself outside his apartment in a t-shirt that actually fits for once. He does have a few casual comfortable items but they’re all for staying in. As for money, it’s a pretty big limiting factor - he doesn’t earn a lot, and he absolutely needs the privacy of a single, so almost all of his small salary goes into affording that. As a result most of his clothes are from thrifting.

No, he’s regular about rotating through his clothes. You could be forgiven for thinking he’s wearing the same outfit, though, since all his outfits exude similar vibes. (’meh.’)

Much to Clark’s irritation, it’s been difficult to find clothes that are ‘his’ size secondhand - clothes just large enough to conceal his build, but not so large that you can tell it’s on purpose. So unfortunately, right now a fair few of his shirts and one suit jacket actually fit him properly.

Clark’s bag has one large pocket with his work tools - reporter’s pad, pencils and pens, laptop, voice recorder, press pass, wallet, and water bottle (for show). The side pockets have a LOT of just-in-case items. Three handkerchiefs, a suspiciously extensive first aid kit complete with ibuprofen, insulin, and antihistamines, two prepaid visa cards with 25 dollars apiece on them, about fifty dollars in small bills, a burner phone sewn into the lining, chargers for his phone, the burner phone, iphones, and androids, an external battery pack, flashlight, a little sewing kit, a glasses repair kit, and two small bars of Emergency Chocolate (Tony’s Chocolonely, and miss him with the dark stuff, Clark is Team Milk all the way). Yes, all of these items have backstories as to why he’s carrying them.

not really? he’ll take a bit more time picking out an outfit and getting ready if he’s going somewhere other than work

he picks new stuff up regularly, mostly from thrift stores. he loves t shirt with funny designs on them (he definitely owns at least one world’s best grandpa shirt because he thinks it’s hilarious)

he’s not really an accessories kinda guy beyond wearing at hat sometimes

kili’s had to completely find a new style since arriving in washington as his clothes from middle earth aren’t anything like the fashions here. it was a bit of a tricky transition at first as he was figuring out what he liked but he has grown to prefer the clothes here
