“ i still haven’t managed it.” despite how tired she feels, she has too many things to worry about, too much work to work on. her own workload was tailored to someone who didn’t need nearly as much sleep to function as she did now. she can almost hear the hesitancy, the change in the tone of their conversation as soon as she said the power she’d been all but cursed with. she wouldn’t fault him for hanging up, for not wanting to hear from her until they all have their own powers back. but he’s safe, right now, she needs eye contact to use it and he’s only on the other side of the phone. “ it requires eye contact, so i’ve been staying in my apartment. outside of the times that she didn’t, wrapped in armor that felt just a smidge heavy now, to try and help even if she couldn’t anymore. “ i hate it.”
Between the lack of sleep and the lack of superspeed to think at, he’s definitely paused for too long. “Oh,” he says, and feels a little like an idiot. Unfounded fears. He knows intimately what it’s like to have people afraid of him for his power, how it feels, but just now he’d done the same. “I know what that’s like,” he says, softly. “When my heat vision started coming in, I thought...well, I thought it would only ever be something that could hurt people. I thought it made me...” He trails off, sighs after a second. “It’s just a tool, and all we can do is do our best with the tools given to us. Whether that’s where we’d normally be, in the thick of it, or keeping others by staying out of it... well, you know what’s best for you.” he half-shrugs, forgetting for a moment she can’t see him. “ah, if you’re going to stay inside until this ends, do you need anything? I can drop it off outside. I don’t think deliveries are running with all the chaos.”
