Rules and methods are not protected under copyright

You never needed an OGL to make content that is compatible with the rules of D&D, provided it doesn't reproduce copyrightable material like characters, monsters, images, names, etc

Wizards of the Coast has revised the OGL and taken out pretty much everything we had a problem with

The real OGL was the friends we made along the way

Now if you still choose to leave dungeons & dragons as a system and explore other games or make your own I absolutely encourage that.

I've said for a long time that DND is good, but it's far and away not the easiest system to get into, certainly not the most flexible, and definitely not the best if you want to max out the role-playing and storytelling aspects of a TTRPG. But there is still a lot to love about it, so I hope this comes as good news to some of you who were mourning or considering leaving the system because of the new OGL
