LAMENTATIONS FOR HOLY SATURDAY
Stop whatever you’re doing and spend the next few minutes surrendered! Soak your spirit in the haunting sound of these harmonious voices, singing a prayer of lament.
Here’s the English translation of what is being sung in Latin:
Here begins the prayer of the
Prophet Jeremiah.
Remember O Lord
what has befallen us:
look and see how we are scorned.
Our inheritance has been handed to
strangers, our houses to foreigners.
We are like orphans, without a father;
our mothers are like widows.
The water we drink we must pay for,
our kindling we obtain at a price.
We are led away, our necks under the yoke;
we are weary, yet are given no rest.
We have put ourselves into the hands of
Egypt and the Assyrians
to have our fill of bread.
Our fathers sinned
and are no more,
but we bear the burden
of their wickedness.
Slaves have become our masters and there
is no one to deliver us from them.
Jerusalem, Jerusalem,
turn to the Lord your God
