An insomniac's prayer

Ever restful Hypnos send me into a peaceful slumber. Let my eyes become heavy, my body too. Send me off to dreamland so I may see you. Let me awaken fresh, rested and all anew. Fill my head with sweet dreams of lavender and honey. Send me into sweet slumber, that's all I ask of you.

O' Hypnos, protector of the chronically ill,

Please allow me a restful night,

A day with less pain,

Some time to stretch.

I praise you, Hypnos.

One does not light a candle for Hypnos, son of Nyx, for He comes in the dark nights and in the shades of trees. One might raise a glass for Him, or say a prayer out loud, things He appreciates, but is not where He comfortably lies. He lives in another place, another space, another time. He shifts among the depths of our minds and feels closer the more we let our consciousness relax. He craves our confidence in Him, for He protects and guides us through sleep, through night, through fears and desires.

Oh, mighty Lord Hypnos, may you bless our most vulnerable times, for rest and calm is what we need most in these troubled times.

If I could give Him roses to show how much I care, I would. But for now, pictures of them will have to do.

To my Lord, whom I'm devoted. Your patience and care, Love and presence, Serenity and mystery; Are but few things that put in me in awe of you.

I wait for your embrace each night, Knowing I am forever safe in your arms. O Sleep, ruling the unconscious mind, How I wish I could show you as much love And duty that you do to us.

Hypnos; Prayer For The Restoration Of Sleep Cylces

Hypnos, gentle keeper of night,

soft-winged god of quiet rest,

come sit beside me as darkness falls.

Guide my body back to its natural rhythm.

Teach my eyes when to grow heavy,

my thoughts when to loosen their grip,

and my spirit when it is safe to surrender.

Untangle the hours that have become confused.

Hypnos, receive my weariness.

Quiet what is restless,

soften what is tense,

and lead me gently into sleep.

"Oh God of Rest, Divine one who delivers us visions at nightfall, winged God Hypnos who brings us these gifts we hold so gently to our soul I call upon you in prayer. Fog claims the gifts you offer, To remember your visions is what I need. May my rest be offering to you, may my interpretation be offering to you.
