Every Hy-Vee store is holding a customer appreciation cookout on Saturday to celebrate being named the country's top grocery store.

Because Hy-vee was voted #1 grocery store, every store in Iowa is offering free food between 10:30 am and 3:30 pm on Saturday, October 5.

✨Sprouts #8✨

We had a great trip. She was very attentive and maneuvered well. It was kind of busy so a couple of times I had to stand against a shelf and ask her to center between my legs so someone could pass without knocking into her and she did it quickly, with precision and without sniffing the food right next to her head. She started alerting early on in the trip but my heart rate was pretty low. I wasn’t feeling well so the moment my heart rate started to spike we went and found a place to sit down. My heart rate continued to rise and even while sitting it was 120+ bpm for 5-10 minutes. I’m glad she was able to give me a heads up that something was about to happen to me.

Our practice sessions at Petsmart have really been paying off. As soon as I sat down she tucked herself out of the way and made herself comfy without being asked. She held the down stay as people ran their carts in front of her and an employee carried things back and forth right next to her. I couldn’t have been more proud of this girl 😍

The only negative was she took her time loading into the crate to leave the store. Her jacket kept getting snagged on the edge of the crate and she thought it was me pulling at her to stop. I finally just took it off and she went in without issue. She needs to learn to bend down more when getting in so that’s something we need to practice at home.

We had to stop at Hyvee for a few things and it was probably the busiest, most crowded store we have ever been to. I was more prepared than the first time we went so I had extra treats with me and that helped a lot. We basically didn’t stop moving the whole time we were there. People brushed up against her as they squeezed by and didn’t hesitate invading her space. Even hubbins almost got ran into by a cart several times and it’s not like they didn’t see him.

I was so impressed with her. It feels weird to describe her like this but she handled amazing. Like a sports car or something. She glided along, listening to every cue and turning, backing up, pivoting, etc without hesitation. She trusted I would guide her in the right direction to keep her safe and out of the way and during all of that she not only ignored everyone else but she did heart rate alert.

We had a great time together. I’m so pleased with her progress.
