Looking back, it's kind of interesting how Liko felt dissatisfied with her school life as time went on early in the series.
Her heart was yearning for something greater, but she didn't fully know just what that was yet.

Pokemon (Shinsaku Anime) || Ann + Oshawott Episode 1
So, from what I understood, the way the Pokémon were given out in Sekiei School/Academy was through interviewing the incoming pupils and then assessing what Pokémon would fit them the best. That's why the was a specific order in which students came to fetch their partners, and why the teacher showed specific pokeball for Liko to pick.
Y'know, that's actually kinda sweet. In a way the student tells what they're like and then the school will realise who's the perfect partner waiting for them. And we can see the decisions were done well with Liko & Nyahoja and with Ann(e?) and Mijumaru. They were like, perfect fits.
it's different from Professors giving out Pokémon and letting the trainers choose. I feel like this is, in some way, a good choice for those who struggle with deciding things themselves. Those who know what they want, can go start their journey with Professors. Those who want to take things slow, can go to school and start that way. It's cool! This, ofc, is me assuming that Professors giving away Pokémon to starting trainers is still a thing here. I mean. In Paldea it's also the school headmaster, Clavell, who gave the first Pokémon. But that was a decision by us. :D
But yeh, this is what just came up on my head, thinking about how differently Liko got her Pokémon from usual showcase.
Bonds between Trainers and Pokémon are a two way street.
It takes both the Trainer and the Pokémon to put in the effort and truly understand one another to form the truly sacred treasure known as a bond, and for a true partnership to form.
Wonder.
You ever think Diana and Hamber actually wrote letters to each other back in their adventuring heydays?
They're a bit from old times but if their recent interaction reinforced something it's that they're quite close. I can see them having written letters to each other whenever they were apart about what they've been up to.
Maybe that's also why Hamber thought Liko would find it believable if she got a letter from Diana back early in the series. Hamber also probably knows Diana isn't tech savvy which is why he thought the idea would be something Liko would find believable. It stuck out that Amethio's method of trying to get Liko to come along with him alongside the pendant was to come in as some rich butler with a letter from her grandmother way back then. It's obvious the reason Amethio "knew" about Diana is because Hamber is close with her.
Only problem was that Liko stated she doesn't get letters from Diana, and in general it seems she was pretty sheltered growing up and didn't know that much about her family. Diana tended to show up in Liko's life situationally even though Liko admired her greatly and any time they did talk was in person. She doesn't seem to be that close with Lucca considering she had no idea about Friede's ties with her. Which basically made both Friede and Amethio's sudden arrival into her life a huge shock to her to the point where she spent a good deal of time in utter confusion and disarray over what she had just gotten herself into lmao. She just wanted to be a normal schoolgirl and then it turned out she was actually meant for greater things.
But yeah, Hamber and Diana may have written letters back in their old days and I can imagine they did.
There's something interesting to be said about how Zirc and Onia looked everywhere they could to find Amethio but couldn't find him anywhere...
And then only once Liko enters the picture do they finally find him.
Way back in the beginning of the series too. Friede and the Rising Volt Tacklers snooped around Indigo Academy to find Liko but couldn't find her anywhere. And then only when Liko was with Amethio did Friede finally find her. He could only find her once she was isolated and in a situation with just her and Amethio. Amethio found her first.
I dunno, that's just super fascinating and poetic to me.
