I had expected Hook to drop the title during this feud but I thought it would be after a grueling fight where someone runs in and like bashes him on the head, not from a ref bump.
Heel Jack is not doing it for me, at least Dominik Mysterio looked hot (to me), and had a stable to bounce off of.

AHHH, this is such a good choice for pre-comic headcanons. And now that we've gotten a lot more background in the comic, I definitely feel okay sharing this for them now.
Jack specifically asked to be Merida's guide when she arrived to the Academy and Esme pulled some strings to make it happen. He wanted to meet her at the airport but didn't know how to get a ride. Instead, he met her at the bus stop a block away from the Academy
After the formal tour of the Academy, Jack showed Merida all the actual "cool" spots where he would hide out to study or play games. One of these was the large window under his loft that can be seen in Issue #237.
They would always reserve a study room in the library during their shared free period on Wednesdays to either play card games, watch videos on a shared phone, or take a nap.
Merida asked to have her locker moved to the south side of school, saying it was too far from the majority of her classes. It was far from one of her classes and Jack's locker was on the south side.
