It’s no surprise that Yuffie pretends she enjoys this trek alone. Always makes due with a laugh on her face and the occasional prank. And those moments she spends with Kunsel and the others– they are genuine and bonafide, she does not regret them for an instance.

But she distances herself all the while. She has not forgotten, after all, the purpose of this trek: to discover and retrieve materia, to use its power to restore her homeland. Because within that small body still burns the flames which scorched the forest. She still endures the heartache that she’s befriended friends of the very one who wrought havoc to Wutai.

Sometimes she thinks she can handle the ordeal of being alone. But for now, she’s still a child.

She can do with friends for now, can’t she?
