#i hate fandom

for a while i've been using "wookiepedia mindset" as a term to describe the broad tendency in fan spaces over the last few decades to obsessively catalog the "lore" of a story, and like,

a lot of digital ink has been spilled about why treating fiction like historical fact and acting like made-up cartoon characters are real people is bad for art and people

but i do think the worst part about it is how it inoculates people against any non-literal thematic reading of a text. the only way anything can be "canon" is if it comes down through word of god or if a character turns towards the camera and specifies it exactly. pointing to implicit signifiers, analogies, metaphor, references, coding, character design or anything else that can't be reduced to a superscript link to the references section of a fandom dot wikia page becomes utterly impossible. and that doesn't only suck but also makes me wanna rip my hair out

Lowkey why do ppl put x reader for every vigilante post that doesn’t remotely mention a reader at all? Like I wanna block the x reader tag but people are just putting it on everything because a decent amount of the fandom likes x reader and they want to be more popular or something by shoving their posts down your throat

Which it’s gotta be annoying for the people that actually want to find x reader things and for some reason just get normal posts about vigilante

Guys… if a tag doesn’t apply to your post, don’t put the tag there. A tagging and filter system only works as well as you make it and this system is quickly deteriorating

i love monster high so much but oh my GOD some MH fans are INSUFFERABLE

i commented on an instagram post that while on one hand it’s frustrating that Abbey is portrayed as and believed to be Russian when she’s confirmed to be Himalayan, but on the other hand it is cool to have some European representation in an american franchise because we don’t see much of it, and i don’t know what about that comment pissed people off so badly but it did

they deleted it but someone said that i’m “weird as fuck” and “trying to force her into one culture”, and i currently have someone else going off on me in replies thinking they’re eating me up by saying “if i make a stereotypical japanese character and make them live in italy, does that make them italian??”, “i don’t get why you want her to be fully and only asian and not multicultural like she is!”

like yes i agree, if Abbey was multicultural that would be AWESOME and i really, really like the headcanon that she is! i would LOVE to see multicultural rep in MH, but i am just stating what is confirmed, and she is not confirmed to be multicultural (that i’m aware of!) i’m honestly just waiting for this person to start flat-out calling me racist

MH G1 purists get so absolutely pissed when anything about G1 is criticized,, stuff like this is why i really only interact with certain posts/people in the MH fandom, it’s so surprisingly toxic in G1 spaces specifically and that’s why i prefer G3 spaces more :/

i might go finish S2 of G3 now that i think about it and listen to Abbey’s now region-accurate accent 😙

gnawing on the walls and thinking about sexism in fandom. female characters are ignored and villainised. oftentimes for the sake of an m/m ship. you guys can't stand women. fandom as a whole ignores and hates on any and all female characters and sexualises them beyond belief. i fucking HATE fandom's relationship with female characters because you ignore the most brilliantly written women for the sake of a one dimensional, nothingburger of a man. fandom claims it doesn't like a lot of female because the author made them boring and flat, then turn around and dote and write and draw the most boring man ever. fandom's internalised sexism is going to make me bite someone's head off oh my GODDDDDDD

i’m a little shocked because i just find out that there are people that think that the scene in invincible when debbie sees nolan for the first time after chicago and she start to hit him, and breaks her wrist in the process, is a bad scene…… hello? is everyone okay?

i started watching the show when season three came out and at the time when i tried to get into the fandom i came across all the amber discourse, i saw all this people saying the most horrible things so i decided to simply enjoy the show and not get involved in the fandom. but today i fell into a rabbit hole on tic tok and i’m confused and shocked, and a little disgusted by, what seam to be, very popular opinions on this show.

like what do you mean mark and anissa should be endgame because you think she hotter that eve? anissa literally rapes mark? ok, this does happen in the comics and it’s yet to be adapted in the show, so the reasonable conclusion would be “ok it didn’t happened in the show yet, they don’t know about it, they don’t know how problematic this ship is, they are simply living their enemies to lovers trope and when it does get adapted everyone will change their minds”. except anissa raping him is a well known fact, i’m reading the comics and i didn’t get to that part yet, i find out thanks to this rabbit hole so you understand that everyone knows this. and what is everyone doing? they are making jokes about it, because of course they are.

this isn’t the only stupid take i’ve seen. the hole thing with amber aggravates me. she wasn’t wrong, she simply wasn’t wrong. i’m will not elaborate on this, all i’m gonna say is that i think is disgusting that people are more willing to understand and have compassion for genocidal maniacs than a black teenage girl (but also what else is new?).

going back to debbie, i haven’t seen that many dumb takes on her as a character(thank god i think she’s awesome), but so many people thought that the scene where she breaks her wrist was silly and stupid, it wasn’t that’s just your brain projecting on it. seriously i don’t know what people were expecting. nolan killed thousands, if not millions of people, he almost killed their son, calls her a pet, then he just leaves earth and then, to top it all off, six months later he has a baby with another woman. i guess they wanted her to jump into his arms and forget everything.
