I miss the gritty grounded feel of Marvel’s Phase 1-2 movies. Everything was darker and textured. Even though they’re fighting aliens, there’s still a street-level feel to the action. It’s not just endless CGI aliens in an ever-expanding CGI field. After Guardians everything got CGIed and bright and airbrushed. And Guardians worked so well because it was different, but Marvel saw that success and went “copy paste.” And don’t get me wrong, I love a lot of the movies in Phase 3-5. But you can’t deny there’s a sharp change in cinematography, tone and costuming.
