falling in love is so fucking stupid. everything on earth is glowing honey-bright. i am easily charmed by small things. i am obsessed even with the shadow formed by her eyelashes. i can't get over the magic of this: that humans can feel something like this.
and yeah in the history of humanity we still can't seem to talk about it enough. because i can tell you about it - about her - and it won't surround the experience. it can never be big enough.
i am feeling something people have maybe always-felt. who knows when the first person fell in love. i am also feeling something that feels new and silly and extreme. like maybe we're the first people to really understand it, truly.
i know the science of it; why her smell is so good to me (something about our compatible genes). oxytocin and whatever hormones. and still it is incredible - i didn't think my body did this kind of thing. i thought it was an invention of romance-book marketing.
things make sense that didn't make sense before. songs about how love is an addiction or possession or insanity. orpheus had to turn around, of course he did, i would turn for her too, just to see. my mom and i watch a rerun of a murder mystery; for the first time i understand the line he did it for love - instead of being trite, it feels like a genuine tragedy.
and of course i am feeling the same way millions of people have maybe felt and know i cannot write enough about it, that it won't quite surrender to poetry. why do i think i'm gonna be the one who can finally communicate this thing that resists definition so ardently. this girl in my kitchen, humming. who walked so casually into my life. this girl pulls the rain down from even a cloudless sky.
what i can say is that i feel something impossible, and stupid. what i can say is that nothing about this is unusual, and yet i am so caught in it that i keep waiting for some terrible evil - something so good surely must come with some kind of retribution.
we get high and watch zombies 4 (it's terrible). the main characters sing a song about love; how theirs feels wild and impossible. the kind of thing i used to think was insipid, bad writing. baby that's us, she says into my ear.
that's us, she says, but with us the true love thing is actually real.

(ISAT ramble / talk about colorism/antiblackness in fandom under the cut. Yada yada)
A black person saying they wished the main character of a beloved game that was intended to be Afro- Caribbean from Guadeloupe actually had any aspect of that in features visibly in the character design (hair, skintone, clothing style, eye shape or nose shape etc) instead of being told retroactively after the fact the specifics of their identity via a post online or a paid artbook is not “misunderstanding the themes of the game”.
Yes I’m aware that people can come in all shades and features regardless of race. That’s a given. But also we do not live in a vacuum and racism/ colorism / featurism/ antiblackness is still a thing that exists and affects the media we look at and can color our biases.
It’s just very very irritating that damn near every single time mixed race rep is represented in stories it’s always the assumption that they have to be half white/look white and very rarely a case of a darker skinned mixed race character getting the focus let alone adoration and love. It’s always a case of the characters getting told to draw / design them lighter and lighter, with features ambiguous and or white so that it gets green lit. That characters need to be “palatable” and stripped of features they naturally would have for the sake of marketability.
That or even when a character in the story does acknowledge their race and their culture or how that would effect their experiences in the story, the fandom at large will do anything in its power to erase it entirely so that it’s back to being relatable to them and them only.

The jester, dragged into the throne room with a blade to her throat. What is the name of the assassin holding the blade, your highness asks?
FUCKING HOCKEY SPACE JAM!?!!?!
P.S. boss I gotta admit I don’t know how this happened. I’ve never even seen Space Jam this makes no fucking sense. Carter Vaughn in my mind does deserve to be the star of Hockey!Space Jam. It’s the only real Justice that CSSC AU Carter will ever get. Also I saw the Obama space jam and just had to make it
Warner Bros. spends years trying to catch Shane Hollander in a net and convince him to do hockey space jam but he simply dodges and weaves them too fast and then eventually they realize Carter Vaughn is the man that they need. he is. A star. Shane, Ilya, and the rest of the ally squad all agree to do a brief cameo if it’s for Vaughny. Donovan gets a minor role and he acts his goddamn heart out.
Everyone figures that Shane Hollander just is too private and serious to ever consent to starring in a sort of goofy kids film but then less than a year after the hockey space jam premiere the Walt Disney Co. asks Shane to be the human cast member for one of the muppet movies and he’s immediately like “it would be the honor of my life.” In the process he accidentally launches a Walt Disney/Warner Bros cold war that plagues Hollywood for years to come. To promote the premiere Ilya does the Graham Norton Show with miss piggy
ive been replaying OFF for the first time in over ten years <3
