Kutner dies

House relapses and is a lifelong addict, cut open his leg to treat self-inflicted cancer, all long term relationships have failed except for the man that he loves but he will never admit it, self harmed on several occasions, went to prison, went to rehab and relapsed after rehab, has a debilitating chronic illness, subconsciously attempts to kill Chase
Chase has an alcoholic mother, deadbeat father, alcoholic sister, is a murderer, went through a divorce, has religious trauma
Cameron married a dying man, is divorced
Thirteen euthanised her brother, has a terminal disease, hides her identity from her parents, went to prison, failed the drug trials which were her only hope of a longer life, asked her boss/father figure to kill her
Foreman has an ill mother, had a criminal history, estranged and had conflict with his also criminal brother, got a disease and believed he would die from it, dated a girl with an expiry date, has religious issues too, had to fight various racial prejudice about his background an his position as Dean of medicine
Kutner committed suicide, witnessed his parents get shot before him, was pushed to be a bully due to his own ostracisation he faces
Cuddy faces misogyny every day as a female leader of a big hospital, her ex-boyfriend drove into her house, she is infertile and struggles with the issue of being a mother,
Wilson gave a liver to someone who did not know his name, is a serial cheater, 3x divorcee, is in an extremely toxic codependent relationship with his boyfriend best friend, is an oncologist, gets cancer, has a dead girlfriend who he whispers to every night, has been treated for depression, been drugged on several occasions, has a schizophrenic brother
Not to mention ALL of them suffer the effects of aforementioned deaths and plot points, all of the fellows are gifted kids or feel immense pressure to get academic validation because of the nature of the fellowship (particularly Foreman and Chase)
I don't think that House is meant to be realistic no one goes through this on a daily basis, god forbid even one thing off the list happens to them, but I think it is a good representation of what someone can be going through that just passes unnoticed (House's sarcasm because of the pain, Chase's religion as a way to cope, Foreman's "arrogance" to hide his insecurities) and I think it asks the question brilliantly of when life is shitty, what do you do about it?
People can try to distract themselves with relationships and flings (like Huddy and Wilson's dying patient, like Chase and that nun, like Foreman and Thirteen, like Cameron and Chase, Wilson and Amber, Wilson and his exes, Cuddy and Lucas, Cameron and her dead husband, Foreman and his married girlfriend, Park and that guitarist, House and Wilson), but push comes to shove they always, always end up temporary or imperfect fixes to life. Meaning is not made in the relationships by how long they lasted but the choices in them and how they carried on afterwards.
Because House does exactly that, the show cariries on. After Season 4 and 5 not everything is a memorial for Kutner and Amber. Wilson moves in with House and carries on. Wilson carries on after the diagnosis. Everything keeps running like clockwork because they all as functioning members of society have a duty to carry on despite what happened to them (in this case continue treating people). And it shows no matter how fucked up a person is (like House, for example) life keeps demanding stuff from you and you have to keep going. House keeps going for the puzzle to avoid the puzzle of his own mind, keeps going for avoidance.
But the main point is you keep going. Which is why I love the ending so much - it doesn't end with Wilson's death, it leaves it open.
What does House do? He probably keeps going (whether it is with the addiction or with life, we will never know.)
