Where are you Air?
4 kinds of Artists:
Earth: Classical, beautiful, static but expressive. Realistic subject matter and process, but shadows are often exaggerated in a soft, sensual, or romantic way. Hidden depths, like water, but has a more latent energy and mysterious quality. Black and gray, or realistic coloring, usually very dark. Creative process is equal to Finished product. Very very very high quality craftsmanship. These pieces will last for fucking ever. Least experimental in that respect, very tried and true. Can be boring to some people, but inarguably well-done.
Media of choice: oil, charcoal, even tempera, pastel, or watercolor. Anything old-school and proven to last a long time.
Air: Lightest and most conceptual of the four. Lots and lots of planning and revisions due to initial indecisiveness or self-criticism. The planning shows in the final product, though. Very concise and very precise. May be extremely geometric or have a graphic, comic book style. Soft, blended, aesthetically pleasing colors. Usually symbolic or political. Might sacrifice some of its life-span in that sense, though. Extremely specific messages become irrelevant over time, and pieces with broad messages can be too similar to other pieces of the time period. But all and all, noticeably talented.
Media of choice: graphite, ink wash, tends to be less ‘old-school’ than earth and water but less experimental than fire.
Water: Gorgeously rounded shapes that flow seamlessly into one-another. Very suggestive of motion. Contour lines are often visible and exaggerated, which can cause solid or geometric surfaces to looks organic. Emotionally expressive with distinct, moody color schemes. Implied depths. Invokes a deep melancholic, or sentimental feeling. Has the second longest lifespan due to its material choices, but craftsmanship isn’t necessarily as important as the feelings put into the piece and eventually conveyed by the finished product.
Media of choice: oil pastels, colored pencil, water colors, anything vibrantly colorful that blends well.
Fire: Intense, decisive marks that fall somewhere between organic and geometric. Look “Etched” or “Burned” onto the page and seem to jump from point to point rather than flow. Reactive, physical, lacks proper planning. Crosshatched or unblended chunks of shading or color. Either highly saturated or black and white. Extreme contrast can sometimes cause the marks to look shallow. Has the shortest life span of the four due to poor materials or poor craftsmanship. Finished product isn’t important. May have smudges or tears.
Media of choice: pen, acrylic, etching, anything fast and permanent. tends to experiment a lot with weird or cheap materials.
Why
Do people forget that if they play with fire they WILL get burned?
would you rather be a dragon or a unicorn?
A DRAGOOOOOONNNNNNN >:D (no offense unicorns, you’re pretty cool too! )
