Da fuq? The anti-522 camp had even MORE money?
Well this is shady as all get-out. According to a release from the office of WA Attorney General Bob Ferguson (official motto: "Not Rob McKenna!") yesterday, he's amended his lawsuit against the Grocery Manufacturers Association -- which is the lobbyist group who spend gazillions of out-of-state dollars to ensure you don't know what the everloving fuck is in your food -- to include an additional 3.4 MILLON DOLLARS of undisclosed funding.
Yeah, totally not sketchy at. all.
Ferg is suing the GMA anyway because, his office says, they "solicited and collected roughly $7.2 million from its members, placing these funds in a special account to be used to oppose I-522. The organization did not report these funds to the PDC at the time...[and] then spent those funds on the No on 522 campaign."
The GMA responded the same day the suit was filed and disclosed the $7.2...but apparently that was completely a CYA move, because yesterday, the lawsuit was amended to reflect the actual amount, which the AG's office says is closer to $10.6 million.
The GMA has 60 days to respond, otherwise, the lawsuit will proceed as usual. But, you know, when you've got millions to toss toward not informing consumers, a little legal finger-wagging probably isn't that scary.
Neat.
