An often overlooked “I Am” declaration in John’s gospel
An often overlooked “I Am” declaration in John’s gospel
John 6:35, 8:58, 8:12, 9:5, 10:7, 10:11, 11:25, 14:6, 15:1 and their context all record a declaration of Jesus in connection to his nature concerning the lost and the saved with the “simple” use of the phrase “I am….” These statements are meant to enlighten and inspire. It is worth noting these statements are also made during situations that enrage and stir ire. Yet regardless of the response…

The other "I am" statements
The other “I am” statements
Through seven great “I am” metaphors, John powerfully communicated Jesus’ purpose. One of my favorites was to say simply, I AM
to elevate the meek self
for the first time
I also took comfort in the recognition
and truth that
I AM the Way, The Truth, and The Life
and that, like me, we could do without a Father
because all the good that was ever in me was in me
never the result of the cross or repentance.
I still trembled every night
I AM
he who faces his terror
for the first time, each day
