Shawna will not use compulsion under any circumstance, not when she’s been subject to it by Klaus and seen just how casually he uses it to make people do atrocious things. She won’t allow herself to infringe upon someone else’s free will like that. So when it comes to getting things she wants, Shawna prefers to use her wits to do it by either smooth talking or even just stealing things she needs. When it comes to feeding, she’ll go off blood bags or abstain from having to hunt live prey as long as she needs to. A lot of people, including other vampires and hybrids, have just assumed that Shawna never learned how to compel others.

Esme definitely decorates her office for Halloween . . . . just saying.

— ugly mobile post that I will make pretty after work. Esme still does struggle with depressive episodes that at times can be rather intense. Generally they’re triggered by a loss of control and death she causes by that, but not always. Esme will be inconsolable for a time, and generally lock herself away and then re-emerge sometime later. She also feels this deep sadness around the anniversary of her son’s death, and does make trips to Ashland to visit him. It took some time before she felt comfortable enough to visit the grave site of her parents in Ohio. She still visits them but not as often as she makes her trips to Ashland.

Just some random Esme headcanons because that is where my head is at:

Esme has a garden at a few of the Cullen residences and of course the Forks one. She tries to add some variety to them, such as growing strictly vegetables in one and flowers in another. Sometimes she’s pleasantly surprised to see that some of them last in her absence. She always takes it a bit personally when her plants die on her however.

She’s not exactly a stay at home Mom. Even as a human she couldn’t quite get behind not having her own adventures, not being able to provide for her family the way her husband would have been expected to. In fact in the months that Charles was gone, Esme liked having her own money. That carried over when she was a vampire, she was rather insistent with Carlisle about buying her own things and not being casual with their money. While she does love Isle Esme she hasn’t quite forgiven him for that one either.

Esme still makes a big deal about the kids birthdays, and has had balloons and things delivered for them at school when allowed. 

She is a pinterest fiend and is constantly trying to outdo herself every holiday when it comes to decorations. Alice is her partner in crime when it comes to these exploits.
