Precious little things from today / Transportation edition
When it comes to cars, the signs are clearly pointing to electricity. But is that practical enough? Short ranges, patchy infrastructures and high prices have to be taken into account - but actually, one should. And the experience with the Nissan Leaf from our local car sharing program was good. It's been on the doorstep for a good two weeks now: the BMW i3s. Actually an idealistic dream, since it is simply quite expensive, I was able to benefit unexpectedly from my boss' relationships and the wishful thought became reality.
What fascinates me so much about this vehicle - apart from an incomparable driving experience, a great interior concept and cool doors - is the overall concept. A few examples: Manufactured with 100% renewable energy, even in regards to the carbon production for the body. A recycling rate of 95% - including the battery. The use of renewable raw materials, e.g. kenaf from mallow plants instead of plastic or leather tanning with olive leaves. And when you "tank up" on green electricity, you are actually emission-free. In short: Daddy has fun and the environment is happy. Deal!
