A 22-year-old woman suffered serious injuries in a road rage shooting incident that occured shortly before 8 p.m. Friday, Raleigh police said.

Deadly crash closes I-40 west near Rock Quarry Rd and I-440 east near Poole Rd

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A deadly crash Sunday evening has closed westbound Interstate 40 in Raleigh near Rock Quarry Road and closed eastbound Interstate-440 near Poole Road.

The wreck happened around 7:30 p.m. near mile marker 300 and is described by authorities as a “very serious crash.”

One person died and two other people were injured and taken to a nearby hospital.

A detour for westbound I-40 has been set up by authorities. Motorists should take Exit 301 for I-440 West and follow I-440 West to re-access I-40 near Exit 293.

Officials said that the westbound lanes will be closed past midnight.

Meanwhile, a detour has also been set up I-440 East: Motorists should take Exit 15, Poole Road, and turn right at the top of the ramp. Follow Poole Road to Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard and turn left. Then, follow Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard to Blount Street and turn left. Blount Street becomes Hammond Road. Continue on Hammond Road to re-access I-40 West near Exit 299.

Raleigh police are seeking public assistance in identifying the suspect responsible for a January assault on Interstate 440.

The lane closures involved with the Fortify project to rebuild an 11.5-mile stretch of Interstate 40/440 are expected to cause heavy delays over the next three years. These delays may prove to be a big hassle for students at Wake Technical Community College.
