Radical Something

This past Saturday some of the Bum Life crew headed down to Santo's Party House to experience their first Radical Something concert. Anyone who follows this blog knows that Bum Lifers love Radical Something and what they're all about. 

So we got the venue an hour early with our meet and greet tickets and got to spend about ten minutes or so talking to Big Red, Loggy and Josh of Radical Something. We told them about Bum Life and handed them some stickers and, much to our excitement, they were stoked about what the clothing line was all about and what it represented. 

Everyone with meet and greets got a free acoustic performance that featured our favorite "Be Easy" as well as a new song from their upcoming album scheduled to drop sometime at the end of the summer. 

The show itself was i.n.s.a.n.e. Lost Hearts opened up, mashing up radio-hit songs with his own rapping and getting the whole crowd moving. Morning Sun & The Essentials took the stage next, mellowing us out with some feel-good reggae roots beats, introducing me to my new favorite jam titled "Rough Cuddle." The next duo that took the stage was no stranger to Radical Something fans; Kinetics, who is featured on their hit-track "Be Easy" took the stage with his other half One Love. With One Love making beats and with Kinetic's rapping on top of it all there wasn't one person in the venue who wasn't dancing. 

Finally, finally, Radical Something took the stage. They instantly connected with the audience, tossing out free glow-sticks, handing out shirts off their backs and their hats. They had this energy that fed the audience and the audience fed right back into it. Hippies and hipsters alike were movin' to the beats, singing along to every song. Even when Ashley managed to find her way onstage, jumping around with the band to "Long Hair Don't Care" they band didn't give a shit -- they embraced her and let her rock out with them before a security guard escorted her back into the crowd. 

Afterwards, after our bodies were pounding and pulsing with the bass, we stepped outside and got to talking to Kinetics only to find out that he was the person who wrote Airplanes, made famous by B.o.B. 

As someone who spent most of her high school days around the Long Island music scene, I have to say that I live for concerts like those. I thought I was jaded in terms of shows -- I've been to about 100 of them, if not more. Sometimes I feel like its the same concert, different day. But every now and then there's a concert that sticks out to me, that makes me remember why the music scene was so magical to me in the first place, why and how I got roped into it. Why I love writing about the music that I love. It's concerts like the one I experienced Saturday night that remind me of those rookie days. The concerts that make me feel alive, the kind where I can feel my heart beating in time with the bass line. 

Radical Something, thank you for being a kick ass band, putting on a kick ass show and putting me back in my own bare-feet.
