This collage is made out of signs and orientation marks I found in Köpenick. I took a pile of pictures, collected them on my laptop and decided to draw and put them in the order of my walk. The green line marks the footprints of my walk, the pink stripes stand for the visual expressions that popped out every second that I walked with open eyes.

I decided to draw a map of „my Berlin“, because I‘m born and (early) raised in Berlin Pankow and feel a strong connection to that place. My teenage years were influenced by experiences in the city and after also living in Brandenburg for a couple of years with my parents, I moved around quite a lot in the different districts, just to end up in Pankow again next to the hospital I was born. The map shows my view on the different Berlin districts, because living here for me is about living between the areas you would find in a tourist guide.

day 1: cognitive map

today’s task was to create a cognitive map. i had my childhood town in mind, because it is the place with which i have the most emotional connotations. the places i marked are very random and from a child’s perspective. there’s the town’s church where i had to participate in Christmas plays as a child and whenever I got home from it, my siblings would tell me that I had just missed Santa Claus. every. single. time! All my failed childhood hobbies, my best friends and the brothels where married men would go are marked on this map.
