I passed a river I did not jump in
I passed an ocean where I did not swim
I passed a garden I did not plant
And while not doing all this
I road a train without a friend
I went out to dinner and feasted in silence
My bank account has never grown fat
My accomplishments have never been print worthy
My obituary is destined to be short
I read thousands of books
I take pictures of children smiling and cherry tree blossoms and cats and birds
I write poetry few will read
I enjoy sunrises and sunsets
But then again i planted a garden...
But then again it would one day be turned over...or drowned
But then again i painted paintings...
But then again no one but me would hang them
I please myself in many ways
I thought maybe I would one day
But even skiing is too much trouble now
I thought I'd jump from a plane
But I now know I'd hate the landing
I desire the calm soaring
My obituary will be short.
