1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?

hmm i chose past tense because i’m more comfortable doing a long work like that (usually i save present tense for short feeling fics) but it’s not a set rule! i think one day i’d like to try doing a long work in present tense too.

i knew from the start that it was going to be limited pov because i wanted to capitalize on the feeling of suspense and uncertainty of not knowing what the parent characters were thinking when the children met them.

i also knew that shinonome and siegbert were going to be the main povs because i didn’t want to jump around too much and - at the time - i wasn’t confident in being able to write in the other childrens’ voices.

but honestly it’s shinonome and siegbert’s characters themselves that played a huge factor in making me write BtWR. i’m a sucker for parallels in writing and these two are so similar yet different; hopefully i’m conveying that well in BtWR by how they have similar positions and responsibilities in their groups but ultimately their approach to life is different, which gives them different obstacles and different tools to overcome it with.

7: Where did the title come from?

asking me why i named anything is embarrassing because i’m notoriously bad at naming things, to the point where my rl friends make fun of me for it ahaha. as you can see most of my fics are named after flower meanings, stones, or just pure nonsense.

ahem anyway for BtWR i wanted something to do with water because the whole game has heavy water imagery and themes. i also wanted some kind of mirror imagery because they’re in an alternate world (go ahead and laugh cause it’s just gonna get worse from here).

i spent some time thinking about how i could use the word meniscus (as in the curve a liquid forms against a container due to surface tension). thankfully i dropped that idea and decided to just stick with water reflection.

but i wasn’t satisfied with just that because the world they fall in is different so it had to be something more than just a water reflection… like… beyond it. they went through the reflection. or something.

you know, writing this down is making me take a second look at my life choices. seriously, is this the best i could come up with? yeah. yeah it is.

PS. OH. MY. GOD. i thought this ask was actually 1-7 so i wrote down answers for everything and then realized you… didn’t actually ask for that much. just those two. oops.

i’ve been working on the next chapter for the past two days but it looks like it’s gonna take a bit more. I’M SO SORRY TO THE PEOPLE I’VE TOLD THAT IT WAS COMING SOON. i had to trash and re-write an entire section because i was unhappy with it but it’s flowing much better now.
