i’ve said this ten trillion times but i’m gonna say it again: rcg rewatching 1-5 together played a HUGE role in the improved quality of this season.

but specifically one of the best improvements is the way they’ve been writing dee. first off, kaitlin is absolutely eating. like holy shit she’s so gorgeous. but more importantly, they’re letting her be friends with the gang again!!

there’s been a really hostile attitude towards dee in the past few seasons (really mostly the ones written during and after glenn’s hiatus) because they’ve tried to show that she’s as messed up as the guys (eg. ptsdee, time’s up, the gang chokes, etc). but now they’re returning to the old dee who was fun, likable, and nuanced, and it’s sooo awesome.

when i think of the early season dynamics i always come back to this scene in the gang goes jihad:

i just love this scene so much. it's so simple but i feel like it really showcases the casualness and ease in the gang's friendship with dee. they invite her along and she joins gladly. it's not a big deal at all and there's no thinly veiled animosity.

idk i feel like when they rewatched the show together they were reminded that these characters started out as regular, plausible people, and it wasn't til the later seasons that they became so (at times excessively) cartoonish.
