like if y’all were wondering, this is my IB exam schedule:

5/3 Physics HL papers 1 and 2 (pm); 5/6 Math SL paper 1 5/6 (pm), 5/7 paper 2 (am); 5/10 English HL paper 1 (pm); 5/12 Philosophy HL paper 1 (pm), 5/13 papers 2-3 (am); 5/19 Psychology SL paper 1 (pm); 5/20 French HL papers 1-2 (pm)

the entirety of 2020 has felt like the time i popped two melatonin pills to go sleep before promptly remembering i had an essay due the next day that i hadn't finished yet so i then proceeded to shotgun four cups of instant coffee and experienced the the wave-particle duality of an electron first hand

okay no but like IB exams aren’t nearly as stiff and formal as I thought. they’re stressful, of course, but somehow the general attitude wasn’t as end-all-be-all as I thought

that said, deciding to go for the whole diploma was stupid

turns out!! after spending two years!! learning java for the fucking ib!! html/ css/ javascript become ridiculously easy to learn !!!

I can’t stop thinking about this moment when one of my friends was hosting a party so a bunch of us went over to help her set up, but I had some work to do and the rest of them had everything covered anyway and so i stole a corner of her bedroom and started working on this essay I had due, anyway they all disappeared to the mall to buy something and in my academic fervour, i didn’t notice that they returned two whole hours later and one of friends took one look at me and went to the kitchen and i must have looked like hell bc when he returned it was with one tequila shot and he gently handed it to me without saying anything and then went back into the living room and that moment more than anything in the world reminds me that even beneficial tendencies like intense, narrow-minded focus can be detrimental in excess and sometimes sometimes even potentially destructive things like your friend handing you a shot of hard liquor can be just what you need

oh gosh that was me making an incredibly psych student joke! Albert Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) was the idea that humans don’t learn everything by experiencing it first hand, but rather we learn a lot of our information just by watching other people and seeing if they face positive or negative ramifications for their actions (and then mimicking them). there’s actually a really good crash course video about it. also the bobo doll experiment is one of my faves in psych and you should definitely check it out if you’re interested.
