Hello there, everyone! My name is Rook, but you can also call me Lark, if you’d like! I’m a latine writer and artist who uses they/them or he/him pronouns. I’ve been creating things for as long as I can remember, and hopefully I’ll be able to share more of the things I create here with all of you! My previous writeblr was @bluejaybabbles and it got a little cluttered over there, so I’m remaking to get a fresh start.

I mainly write fantasy novels with LGBTQIA+ themes! I’m a big fan of the found family trope, so you’ll see a a lot of that in my work, along with polyamory,  strange magic, and fair folk. 

Currently, I have four WIPs bouncing around in my head, all in planning stages. You can find my WIP page any time here, but they are as follows: 

Iron-Bred, Violet-Born

Previously known as When the Waves Kiss the Trees, or WTWKTT! 

Iron-Bred, Violet-Born was its original title, but that didn’t fit one of the drafts I had been working on. Surprise! It fits again!

Short description:  A newly-discovered changeling and a human prince come together to find a city the gods abandoned. This city, which may or may not exist, could be the only hope for the survival of their world.

Like Thunder Below

Sometimes you hyperfixate on The Witcher but you’re also thinking about life in Ohio and also also you’re thinking about cicada brood x and this comes about, y’know?

Short description:  A monster hunter who prefers to use a catch-and-release method joins up with the local witch to help someone who seems to attract monsters and strange phenomena, all while navigating life in Hedgerow, Ohio.

An Anchor in the Overgrowth

Some of you may know this as Juniper’s story! It finally has a title! I came up with it while trying to come up with a title for Adrift! 

This one is the result of me thinking about media that shows how bright and beautiful a world can be far past an apocalypse, and also me wanting to deal with some very specific trauma, so there you go

Short description:  Deep in the forest no one returns from, there’s an inn that serves as a waypoint on the path through the trees. Juniper, the current innkeeper, does her best to help those that come to the inn, all while struggling with her own trauma.

Adrift

This one’s fairly new! 

Short description:  Trapped in a manor they were supposedly sent to deem safe, a prince, an apothecary in training, and two loyal knights must face the possibility that they are not alone.

For Rute, I'm thinking Smuffle Cat!! Throughout all his many design changes, one aspect that's remained consistent is elements from a black and white cat. I can also imagine him loving this little guy for many years <3

Yarrow could almost pass for a Court Faerie, if not for her eyes: amber in color, with horizontal slits for pupils, much like a tree frog.

"It works out, really," she'd say. "I can blend in if I need to, but I've still got the stuff of the wilds in me, y'know?"

Oliver had been gone for a long time now. Linos knew this was for the best; that's what they had been told, anyway. Still, when their mother and sister were up late at night, whispering plans for Big Important Things they didn't quite understand, they would scribble their brother's figure into their drawings of the family. As if the more they drew him, the easier it would be to understand his departure. As if drawing him would bring him home.

When Persimmon was young, he would approach his mother with a bird's egg delicately cupped in his outstretched hands. "This was me once," he'd say, and a frightened look would pass over her face before she asked him to put it back. Again and again, he would bring her an egg, insisting, "This was me once," and again and again, she would simply tell him to put it back.

One day, he came to her, tears in his eyes and a freckly blue robin's egg in his hands, and he said, a little desperately, "This was me once, Mama, this was me once."

His mother paused a moment. She seemed to consider saying more this time, but in the end, she simply ruffled his hair and told him to put it back.

"You're like the sun in the morning," Rute murmured, twirling a lock of Oliver's golden hair around his finger. "Make getting up worth it. Warm the world up. Pretty."

"Go to sleep, Rute," Oliver said, though he couldn't help but smile.

"Like the sun in the afternoon, too. Bright. Irritating. Still pretty, though."

Oliver gently punched Rute in the shoulder, and the two of them burst into breathy, sleepy laughter.

hmm…. which of your characters from different projects would get along best if they met? which ones wouldn’t? (i know this might be a moot question since some of your projects are set in the same universe shdjdjd so if any of them actually DO meet across projects i’d love to hear about that too 👁)

OHHHH hmmm...let’s see. I think Rute and Persimmon would get along; they would definitely bond over being Children of Estraphel. Rute doesn’t know he’s a Child of Estraphel for a long time, he just thinks he’s a super juiced up faerie, so they would have so many stories to tell each other about how they got to where they are. I don’t know yet if they meet in canon...I hope so. I hope I can make that work.

Hawthorne and Javi would have SO much fun together!! Now, it wouldn’t be the most, uh...healthy. Fun. They both have issues with using alcohol to cope and so they’d probably do a pub crawl or something that ends with them on the floor somewhere, drunk, talking about their feelings.

As far as who I don’t think would get along...probably Avery and Oliver. They are both broody boys in very different ways, but Oliver is rich and broody, and I think Avery would detest that. That said, Oliver does end up on the run with just the money he could carry with him, and he has a noble dream, and I think Avery could respect him for that. It would just be tense. 

Yarrow and Hawthorne DO meet pre-canon! Yarrow is part of a traveling group of entertainers who pass through Hawthorne’s town. They make a plan for Hawthorne to run away with them, but uh...that obviously doesn’t. Work out. They have fun together while they’re in town though!!

🐝: Iron-Bred, Violet-Born and Adrift take place in the same universe! An Anchor in the Overgrowth tentatively takes place there as well. Crossover when?

🐝: Florence medically transitions while in Faerie. His surgeries are beautifully done because they're magically assisted! However, he has to do most of his surgical recovery in the human world 🙃
