he sympathises with her. how can he not? nobody is more acutely aware of how loss feels than the doctor. he has lost more than most people will ever experience, much less lose themselves. still, he cannot approve of what she wants to do. the web of time must be paramount.

" the demand hits him like a ton of bricks. yes, he may have promised that he would get her home... eventually but he'd assumed that she had grown fond of him, just like he had her, and any notions of returning to earth were gone. " yes, of course, home. " he nudges a lever forward, eyes downcast to the console, avoiding direct eye contact. " that's where they all want to go, they all want to depart when they've had enough, they always do. never to be seen again. "

he can't help but feel a little embarrassed. the last time they were together, he was still in that needlessly naive body, ill-equipped to deal with the reality of the universe at large. he almost feels vulnerable with how often he runs into her these days.
he stuffs his hands into his front pockets, a broad smile on his face. " i seem to be running into you a dizzying amount these days, don't i? " he muses if the tardis knows he's lonely, that he's without company at the moment. she can be so meddlesome, can't she? " well, what do you think? a definite improvement, if i do say so myself! "

" i told her i'd fix her, find a cure. " he says, apropos of nothing. she had questioned him, wondering his motives for bringing her onto the tardis. correctly identifying some deep-seated guilt, perhaps, but he'd mostly remained quiet. hard thing for him to do, mind you, it's not like he's a very stoic fellow. " left her in norway, of all places, while i found a cure. didn't end up doing her much good in the end. " scoff comes out at the end, bitterly as can be.

he tries to keep his usual outwardly detached appearance upon seeing amalia, not entirely successfully. seeing her so soon, so soon after failing to save cassie from her fate. it all makes him a little melancholy, a bit desperate to see if he can save at least one person afflicted with vampirism.
