Since Trump Took Office, More Than 20 People Have Died in ICE Custody

On January 3, Lunas Campos, who had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was medicated for depression, died during an altercation with guards after he had been placed in solitary confinement. An autopsy report released on January 21 by the El Paso County Office of the Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide, and listed its cause as “asphyxia due to neck and torso compression.”  According to an interview with the Washington Post, Santos Jesus Flores, who was also being held in the solitary confinement unit when Lunas Campos died, “said he saw at least five guards struggling with Lunas Campos after he refused to enter the segregation unit, complaining that he didn’t have his medications.” Flores said “he saw guards choking Lunas Campos” and heard Lunas Campos saying, “‘No puedo respirar’…He said, ‘I cannot breathe, I cannot breathe.’ After that, we don’t hear his voice anymore and that’s it.’”  Just as they did after the Minneapolis killings of Good and Pretti, representatives of the Trump administration told lies and attempted to blame the victim. Initially they said that Campos’s death was a suicide. Then Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement: “Campos violently resisted the security staff and continued to attempt to take his life. During the ensuing struggle, Campos stopped breathing and lost consciousness.” In other words, ICE had to kill Campos in order to save him.

Keith Porter Jr was shot by an off-duty ICE member December 31, 2025. He was a father, son, brother, and person. And to add, had a lovely smile :). I was unable to find the ICE member’s name.

While researching for this piece, I was reminded once again of the cruel way in which the media will silence black voices and stories. It was difficult to find much information about Keith that differed from the one angle. I couldn’t find anything about who he was as a person, his job, his life. His life mattered just as much as victims with white faces did, and I hope to shine more light on his story through this piece

On January 23rd this year, 30 year old Wael Tarabishi passed away after ICE detained his father, who was Wael’s primary caretaker. Wael had Pompe Disease, which led to muscle weakness and heart problems, his father, Maher Tarabishi, was his primary caretaker, allowed to stay in the US as he was Wael’s caretaker, knowing how to help his son whenever he needed it. ICE refused to release Maher for him to take care of his son, after detaining him at a routine check-in. They further refused to release Maher for the funeral. The rest of Wael’s family, who were not as trained as Maher was in providing care had to struggle with two hospitalizations, learning how to administer care Maher would’ve known to do, and finally the death of Wael.

Rest in peace Wael.

ICE Shoots and kills Woman in car

A US immigration agent has fatally shot a 37-year-old woman in the city of Minneapolis, sparking a war of words as local officials rejected the Trump administration's account that it was self-defence.

The Department of Homeland Security said the woman, Renee Nicole Good, was a "violent rioter" who tried to run over Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

But Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said, "This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying", telling ICE officials in expletive-laced remarks to leave the city.

Hundreds of ICE agents have been deployed to Minneapolis, in the state of Minnesota, as part of the White House's crackdown on illegal immigration.

Videos posted to social media by onlookers appear to show the moment of the shooting, which occurred around 10:25 local time on Wednesday morning.

From various vantage points, a maroon SUV can be seen blocking a residential street in Minneapolis.

A crowd of people, who appear to be protesting, are lining the pavement.

Law enforcement vehicles appear nearby. Immigration agents pull up to the vehicle parked in the street, emerge from the truck and tell the woman behind the wheel to get out of the SUV. One of the agents tugs at the driver's side door handle.

Another agent is positioned near the front of the vehicle.It's not clear exactly how close the agent is standing or whether he was struck by the vehicle based on the videos reviewed immediately by the BBC.

That agent opens fire as the maroon SUV attempts to drive off.

Three pops are heard, and the vehicle can be seen losing control and crashing into a car parked nearby along the street.In a post on Truth Social, Trump said an ICE officer was "viciously" run over. "It is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital," he wrote.

The Republican president also blamed the "Radical Left" for "threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis".

Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara said the driver was in her vehicle and was blocking the roadway on Portland Avenue. She was then approached on foot by a federal law enforcement officer, "and she began to drive off".

The Minneapolis City Council, however, said in a statement that Good was simply "caring for her neighbours" when she was shot and killed.

Minnesota State Governor Tim Walz also pushed back on federal accounts of the incident.

"Don't believe this propaganda machine,"

Walz wrote in response to a Department of Homeland Security post about the shooting.

"The state will ensure there is a full, fair, and expeditious investigation to ensure accountability and justice."
