“You figure skate, right?” Suna said, a bare-minimum attempt at whispering. The two of you sat in the middle of the library, squeezed between someone who seemed to be on their last straw and someone who did not like history.
His random question brought you out of your self-deprecating thoughts and back into the room, where you had to tutor one of your class’ most obnoxious, lazy, careless, idiotic-
“Yes,” you answered kindly, despite your thoughts. “I do.”
“I know,” he whispered, lips pursed together as if sheepish, but the glint in his eyes told you he wasn’t the least bit ashamed. “You’re real pretty.”
Clearing your throat, you strictly kept your eyes on his book on the desk after realising you had stared at his eyes for a little too long. “Let’s stay focused on this, I don’t have all day.”
“Sure, take the lead.”
The next time you met in the library, it seemed that the two of you finally loosened the knot in Suna’s head that insisted he couldn’t do maths. You grinned when he solved one of the more difficult issues on his own, holding up a hand for a high-five and not even caring that much when the sound of it might have disturbed some of the others who sat close by.
“You did so well!”
But the happiness you felt at him accomplishing this wasn’t the only thing that occupied your mind. At your praise, Suna couldn’t help but smile widely, showing much more of his teeth than you could usually see. Your eyes zeroed in, and Suna’s smile fell, lips pursing together to hide his two missing teeth on the one side. “Thank you. What’s next?”
You nodded subtly, registering his avoidance of the subject. “Integrals.”
He groaned, leaning back in his chair and throwing an arm dramatically over his face. “The misery never ends!”
You didn’t stop thinking about it, though. A lot of the more reckless hockey players chipped or lost their teeth now and then, but it was usually fixed within the week. What could have happened for him to be missing them still?
Suna suddenly turned to you, putting a finger under your chin so you would face him. “You might as well just ask.”
“What happened to your teeth?” you whispered.
Suna huffed through his nose, and the signature smirk stretched across his lips. “I annoy people, frequently.”
The answer made you chuckle under your breath, gaze falling on his notebook, which proved he hadn’t focused much on the last few problems either. Gulping at his intense stare, you hesitated but asked anyway. “Why haven’t you had them fixed?”
“It’s expensive. My parents already paid for me to transfer here; the scholarship doesn’t cover my own wrongdoings.”
Looking back up, you had sympathy painted all over your face. You weren’t sure how to answer but didn’t have to figure it out as Suna perked up and turned back to his task.
“But one day I’ll be in the big leagues and my smile will be back to irresistible.”
Even though you and Suna were both at the rink many days of the week, you hadn’t run into each other much before. At least, you hadn’t noticed him.
Now, you could swear he was always there. Whether he gave you a short wave when you passed by while he played or winked at you when he saw you skating, you found yourself growing fond of his presence.
This time, he walked up to you after you finished training, slumping down beside where you were switching from skates to normal shoes. “Hey,” he said.
You looked around and noticed there were no other hockey players left, then glanced at the clock to confirm that his training had ended two hours ago. “Suna, did you wait here for two hours?”
He shrugged, but the smile on his face gave away something less careless. “I’m glad you noticed.”
“Why?”
“The other day, you said you weren’t happy they switched our training because you had to walk home late. Thought I might walk you home.”
It sounded like your heartbeat wanted to talk to him, ringing in your ears and pinching its colour into your cheeks. You looked down at your shoe and tied the last lace. “Thank you, that’s very kind of you.”
Suna made it a regular thing, staying around until you finished training to walk you home, chatting about your days and lives, interests and dislikes. It became your favourite part of the day, and your friends commented regularly on how you and Suna sat closer and closer to each other each time you tutored him.
This time, you didn’t get off the ice after training. You skated a couple more laps while the others filed out of the room one by one, wishing your pulse would slow down before you spoke to Suna.
“Put your skates back on.”
Suna blinked, taken off guard by the change in routine. “My skates?”
You confirmed and giggled as he got to it, glancing at you with suspicion. When he got back up, skates safely secured, you ushered him to meet you in the middle of the ice. “Have you ever danced on ice before?”
Pride filled you at seeing the cool-headed Suna Rintaro out of his element. He raised his arms carefully, allowing you to direct his hands to your waist. “Not like you do.”
With careful movements, you moved to the side, and he followed clumsily. His eyes darted straight down to your feet. While he was good at skating, he wasn’t used to avoiding someone else’s skates while moving. “Just follow my lead,” you encouraged.
Your eyes were locked onto where a blush spread quickly from his neck to his ears. He finally looked up as he got into the pattern of your movements. “Am I in trouble?” he chuckled.
You hummed and smiled, leaning closer to twirl the two of you in a circle. When you slowed to a stop, you slid your arms around his neck, and a chill ran through you as he naturally followed and moved his arms around you. “I think I have a crush on you.”
Suna groaned, which disturbed the palpable tension between you and made you question yourself entirely. Oh no, maybe you had misunderstood. Had he not returned your affections? Did you just make a complete fool out of yourself-
“Sublime!” he yelled, tilting his head back so it wouldn’t ring in your ears. You drew a breath and held it, shocked at the outburst yet consumed with happiness at what it might mean.
His head came back down so he could look at you, grin wider than you had ever seen it, with his missing teeth on full display.
You couldn’t help but think that his smile was already irresistible.

cw: toxic boyfriend Iwa who eventually gets his shit together
“I don’t like it,” Iwaizumi grumbled, the bench rumbling as he sat down. It felt like the equivalent of a child stomping.
No matter how much you loved your boyfriend, you realised lately that he didn’t have the same respect for figure skating as he did for hockey. While fighting on the ice was a respectable part of his sport, dancing with a male partner was apparently not a respectable part of yours.
You sighed and turned away without another word, demonstrating your own temperament in the way you skated up to Oikawa, your male partner for the rest of the semester, and quickly held up your arms to signal for him that no more words would be exchanged on the matter. Had you been in an anime, Oikawa would have visible sweat on the side of his face from the tension alone.
Iwaizumi stayed quiet for the most part, never once looking away and eventually crossing his arms to make sure you knew he wasn’t happy. Meanwhile, you kept a neutral face as if it didn’t bother you at all, even smiling at Oikawa from time to time in hopes it would calm him down.
Which worked very well until it didn’t.
“Oikawa!” Iwaizumi yelled at a particular lift where Oikawa had to support your bum while you moved around. The male figure skater lost his focus, taking in a sharp breath just as he lost his hold. You did your best to recover, almost catching yourself, but the speed of the move had you tumbling to the ground anyway. After you landed with an ouf, Oikawa quickly rushed to check on you.
Predictably, he was shoved out of the way. You groaned at the ache in your shoulder but spared some energy to glare at your boyfriend.
“Are you okay, baby?” he cooed. He didn’t give you much choice as he helped you up, but you didn’t answer. Back on your feet, you looked around to find Oikawa looking on guiltily. You smiled at him as convincingly as possible before waving him over to you. “What are you doing? Let me help you,” Iwaizumi urged and held your hand. Oikawa followed your lead to support you, advancing towards the entrance. You glanced back at Iwaizumi, shaking your head.
“I need a break. From us.”
You hadn’t talked to Iwaizumi since then. The distance clawed at your heart, but it gave you the mental space to focus on this competition with Oikawa. Of course, he never made advances on you; you were just friends.
“Is he coming to see the performance tonight?” he asked as you were cooling down after the final rehearsal.
You shrugged looking to the side as if he would come storming in. “I hope so.”
Iwaizumi’s hands were tucked deep in his pockets as he entered the arena, looking around for a seat where he could be alone but still have a good view. At the same time, his eyes were scanning the crowds for any sign of you.
Alas, you were nowhere to be found. The only clue he had was the flyer they handed him when he entered, picturing all the contestants. He dared scowl at the picture of you and Oikawa but shook his head to rid of the thought. Maybe he didn’t understand why you chose to compete in this event, but like hell he’d miss it.
While his heart begged him to do something when you got on the ice, he appreciated the performance from a respectful distance just like everyone else did, clapping more than necessary any time the crowd seemed to agree on it.
Thoughts swirled inside his head, and while they were usually shaped like hockey sticks and pucks, they just calling your name now. How amazing were you to skate like that? Why had he not been kissing the ground you walk on? You’re the most gorgeous person he had ever seen, and perhaps he forgot that in the midst of knowing you were already his.
The bouquet resting in his lap wasn’t as big as the one you got for winning second place, but it did contain all your favourites. As he got up from his seat at the end of the event, he was shaking his body to loosen the nerves, careful of the flowers in his right hand. He made his way toward the hallway you had gone down, not giving anyone attention if they weren’t the one he was looking for.
“Y/n.”
You turned, the skirt of your costume swishing with you. Giving your friends a heads up that you would meet them outside, you finally approached him. “Haji.”
Iwaizumi held out the flowers and cleared his throat, feeling out of his element. “Congratulations. You were first place in my eyes, I can’t believe I never took the time to watch you.” He shook his head, thinking back to when he insisted on watching so Oikawa wouldn’t try anything. “Properly watch you, I mean.”
Sighing, you smiled softly and accepted the flowers before pulling him into a hug with your free arm. He embraced you with both of his, snuggling his face into your neck and leaving a brief peck.
“I knew you puckheads were stupid, but if you ever disrespect me like that again…” you warned, but still returned the affection with a kiss on his cheek.
He took a deep breath of relief, rubbing where his hands sat at the low of your back. “You got it, boss. Maybe I could learn a thing or two from these guys.”
“Iwa-chan!” Oikawa greeted from behind him, and you chuckled at how Iwaizumi’s shoulders raised. “I could teach you any time. Dating the hottest girl in town and you can’t even-”
Ice cold – Sakusa x reader

You always thought ice was cold until you met Sakusa Kiyoomi, one of Tokyo’s up-and-coming stars in figure skating.
In addition to his immense talent, you had never seen anyone more beautiful. It was practically love at first sight. “Good practice?” you asked him cheerily while tightening the locks on your hockey skates.
Sakusa barely turned his head to glance at you, already putting a mask back on that he had left by his neon-coloured jacket on the railing. “Yes.”
“Nice.” You watched him go, mimicking chills as he left before returning to your business. Physically, at least. Your mind was somewhere else…
Even during the post-game dinner about a week later, you kept zoning out while the team laughed and talked louder than anyone else in the diner.
You didn’t even realise you were leaning so hard on your palm that it squished your cheek into a mumble. “Do you think his lips are cold?”
The one who sat beside you looked incredulous, staring at you for a second before answering, then checking to see if anyone else was also concerned. “Whose?”
“Sakusa Kiyomiiiii,” you groaned, finally moving from your position to rest your face on your arms, which you had crossed on the table.
“Right, because he’s suuuch a charmer,” the one across from you drawled sarcastically.
You frowned. “He smells good. He has good posture.”
“And you must’ve taken two too many pucks to the head.”
“Maybe Cupid switched from arrows to pucks. Creative liberty.”
“Did you do something to your hair?”
Sakusa sighed and put his mask on, leaning back a bit when you stood up to look at him closer.
“It looks good,” you added.
“Thank you,” he said, so slow it reminded you of Snape in Harry Potter. He attempted to walk past you while also trying to avoid brushing against your hockey uniform. Don’t know how often they wash those.
“How long have you skated?” you asked, cheeks rounding to accommodate your smile.
“Long.”
Accepting defeat for now, you gave him space to pass. “See you next time!”
“Preferably not.”
“Sa-“
“Can I help you?” he practically barked, making you draw a huge breath and purse your lips.
Silence drew a hard wall between you two, daring you to answer him.
“I just… think you’re cool.”
He blinked once, twice… and then lifted a hand to point at his chest. “Me?”
Gesturing at the lack of other people around him, you nodded with something resembling sympathy.
“You think I’m cool?”
“Hella.”
Sakusa scoffed at your stereotypical lack of proper vocabulary, turning his face away to hide anything that could be mistaken for a blush. He definitely wasn’t charmed by a hockey player. “I have to go,” he announced with no further explanation as to why.
“Oh, okay. See you around.”
If anyone saw Sakusa glancing over his shoulder at you while walking away, they couldn’t prove it.
You and your teammates were warming up once again, skating rounds and barely avoiding each other in passing. That’s when your sixth sense kicked in, and your head whipped around to find Sakusa passing by on his way out.
“Sakusa! Hey! Over here!” you yelled, waving your arms so he’d notice you despite the hockey helmet.
He stopped, silently blinking and trying not to notice all the other skaters watching the interaction.
“See what I can do!” you yelled again, holding out your hands as if telling him to wait before skating to one end of the rink. Kicking off when Sakusa hadn’t moved from his spot, you grinned as you did your best at copying one of the moves you’d seen Sakusa do. It wasn’t a jump, but it sure felt graceful.
Sakusa hoped he looked calm and collected despite not feeling like it. While watching you, he cracked a small smile, then quickly returned to being the fake nonchalanter he was. He gave you a meek thumbs-up as you looked at him for his reaction.
“Good job,” he complimented you before turning and leaving. “Bye, y/n.”
“What a dick,” one of your teammates said with a scowl, bumping into your shoulder to catch your attention. However, you didn’t seem discouraged. Quite the opposite, you looked elated.
“He said my name,” you whispered.
“You don’t like me,” Sakusa’s voice boomed through the hallway where you followed behind him, struggling to keep up with his pace in your hockey gear.
“Yes, I do.”
“No. Stop wasting your time.”
“Please, Sakusa! Give me a chance!” you begged, feeling just as pathetic as you probably looked. “I’ve liked you for so long. You’re an amazing skater and seem like a great person.”
Abruptly, almost making you stumble, Sakusa turned around to face you. “What in the world have I done to make you think I’m so great?”
You gulped, maintaining eye contact lest you lose any courage. “You’re so strong, even though your build doesn’t look like it. Your hair is always styled and even looks good after training. You do extra rounds when the children come around to watch you because you enjoy how they marvel, and you study here at the rink because you like it cold. You smell… incredible, despite favouring a bottle of disinfectant more than the jocks favour a bottle of beer.”
You took a break from rambling to breathe and take in the visible effect your words had on Sakusa. He stood up straighter, lips parting gradually as you went on and pupils dilating, speechless.
“I like everything about you, even when you pretend not to enjoy my poor attempts at figure skating. Please, give me a chance.” Your body slumped a little at finally expressing all these thoughts. “One date, and if we don’t enjoy ourselves, I won’t bother you.”
Sakusa looked at the wall with no purpose but avoiding your pleading eyes. His heart was racing, running laps as if chasing every word you rambled. He couldn’t quite believe someone had noticed all these things about him, and he certainly couldn’t believe someone liked all of them.
“Fine,” he finally answered. You audibly gasped, stars in your eyes. “One date.”

“Miya!” your coach yelled, shaking her head and sighing at the repetitive scene of Atsumu not knowing when to quit. Not that you were any better, angrily bickering back at him until your coach spoke up. “Get off my ice, now!”
“Your ice? I don’t see your name on it,” he answered childishly, scraping his skate against it as if digging for a place where your coach had signed her name.
“You’re taking time from the figure skaters,” she explained. That lady had the patience of a saint.
“Maybe I should be a figure skater,” he suggested before skating away from you in what he considered a graceful manner.
You cackled and pointed. “You could never do what we do.”
Atsumu was almost off the ice but swiftly turned back around at the taunt. “Is that a challenge?”
“Miya!”
You finished training, the previous ordeal far from your mind when Atsumu came stomping back in. “You, me, it’s on.”
The coach had long left the premises, so no one was out on the ice except you and now, one blonde-passing hockey player.
“Are you sure your gear is strong enough? You might lose your last brain cell when you trip and fall.”
Atsumu scoffed dramatically and curtsied mockingly. “Show me what to do and I’ll do it even better.”
He wasn’t better than you, but he wasn’t… half bad.
By now, all the others had also left and you were leaning against the fence while Atsumu did jump after jump, spin after spin, throwing caution to the wind and miraculously not tripping that much.
“You’re not that bad, I’ll admit.”
He made a sharp stop right in front of you, hand naturally falling on his hip. “Last one. If I make it you go on a date with me.”
A blush hugged your cheeks and you pretended to rub your nose to hopefully hide it. “I’ll have to make it difficult then. And if you don’t make it?”
“I’ll go on a date with you.”
Deadpan, you stared at him in surprise, blush spreading to your ears in disbelief at his shamelessness. You pushed off the fence and cleared your throat, neither agreeing nor disagreeing to his terms before preparing to show him the next move.
Make it really difficult. Okay. Shaking your hands in preparation, you started doing a couple of rounds to gain speed, enjoying the way Atsumu kept turning so his eyes could follow you eagerly.
Aaand jump!
You held your breath as you stretched your legs and arms out for the time spent in the air before sticking the landing and jumping straight into a spin, not landing that one perfectly, but good enough. Finally, the breath escaped you safely and you skated towards Atsumu with a cocky smile. “Go on, ice princess.”
Atsumu chuckled, already starting on the rounds. “Keep your eyes on me!” he called to you, ensuring your eyes followed him just as keenly as he had followed you before.
He didn’t make it to the second jump, too focused on stretching his legs and not at all thinking of a way to land. You were both giggling and leaning on each other as you got off the ice, wondering who should bring up the bet first. It’s not like you had agreed…
After removing all your equipment, you cleared your throat and he sighed heavily, falling uncharacteristically silent.
“Sooo,” you said, drawing it out.
“I lost,” he declared with a coy smile. “Pick you up at seven?”
Figures – Bokuto x reader

When their hockey training finished and the figure skaters took to the ice, Bokuto constantly got distracted. While the rest of his team shuffled out, he leaned on the edge of the rink to watch you, completely mesmerised.
Everyone knew he wasn’t there for figure skating. He was there for you.
“He’s watching you again,” one of your friends hummed while skating past you as you all warmed up and got used to the ice roughly scratched up from the hockey practice. Another skater passed on your other side, muttering “Figures…”
You glanced over your shoulder, hesitating to make eye contact with Bokuto. The man flushed at the returned attention and stumbled when his skate fought against his attempt at a smooth exit. With a little snort under your breath, you continued warm-ups like usual, flicking your hair as you turned back to your friends. “Whatever.”
It’s no use getting involved with those puckheads anyway.
Kuroo patted Bokuto on the back. “I know I’ve asked before, but shouldn’t you try talking to her?”
Bokuto gasped and looked at Kuroo in disbelief. “As if I could ever be on her level. I’m a mere peasant watching her regalness from afar.”
The expression on Kuroo’s face was a mix of sympathy and scowling. “Okay, Shakespeare on ice.”
As they exited, Bokuto loosely pushed Kuroo’s shoulder, grumbling something about him being unromantic. “Doesn’t matter, she barely looks at me.”
Little did he know that destiny had taken the wheel and was driving full speed forward.
As they finished their next training, Bokuto hung around the goalie for a while longer to tease him for the last puck he got in that day, skating circles around him as he tried to make his way off the rink.
So Bokuto didn’t see when the pristine figure skaters came on and, spoiler alert, destiny crashed his car straight into you.
He just barely found the time to catch you, twisting so he and his equipment could take most of the fall. You ended up halfway on top of him, eyes wide open as you registered what had happened.
“You-“ You puckhead! is what you tried to sputter, but the words wouldn’t come out. Instead, you just stared with the sudden realisation that he was so… pretty?
“Hi,” he said and giggled, lips splitting to show the brightest, most blinding smile like he hadn’t just landed harshly on the ice.
You returned the smile, only to realise where you were and how exactly you were positioned. Scrambling off him, you sat on your knees and hid your face in your hands while your friends whistled.
Bokuto got up on his feet, cheeks burning at the attention from the rest of your group. He held out his hand, clearing his throat. “I’m so sorry, let me help you up.”
You took his hand and let him, very thankful that your coaches called on each of you so you could skate away, pretending your heart hadn’t skipped a beat from a stupid hockey player.
As the hockey players filed out, you straightened your back as you got on the ice. One of the last ones out was Bokuto, and you smiled fondly at the memory of the last time you two interacted.
“Hi, Bokuto,” you greeted him with a nod before moving on with training like usual.
“Hi!” Bokuto almost yelled, eyes following you dreamily. You noticed him voluntarily!
Kuroo urgently held out a hand, as if that would help, only to realise his warning was much too late. “Watch out!“
Bokuto tumbled off the ice in the least elegant way possible, but he couldn’t even feel the pain when he landed. All he could do was smile while staring at the ceiling from his spot on the ground. “She said hi.”
“I heard.”
There was no stopping Bokuto. He was developing into one of the most powerful players in the league, and scouts were watching him like hawks at games.
But he celebrated just as loudly at training.
“WHOOOHOO!” he hooted at his own goal, spreading his arms as he glided across the ice in victory. He was just about to focus back into the game, hoping to score one more in the last stretch of their practice, when he found you.
So this is how you felt when he stuck around to watch you. You were leaning on the palm of your hand, eyes following him from the second closest bench. In his mind, he could even see your eyelashes batting when you blinked.
Now, he wasn’t getting another goal in, so flustered he could barely stop giggling inside his helmet. Might as well accept defeat since you had him putty in your hands.
Kuroo raised an eyebrow at you in passing, but you pretended to be checking your nails instead. Well, until an owl hopped over at least.
“Were you waiting for… someone?” he asked, hoping his burning cheeks could be blamed on the climate.
You shrugged. “I just got here early, no big deal.”
It was just an act, but you pursed your lips when you saw his smile falter with a small muttered “Oh.”
“I saw that goal.” You smiled, happy when he returned it. “It looked cool.”
When you walked past him, his heart was running faster than it had been all practice, and you mentally scolded yourself for matching his heartbeat.
Which one is his? you muttered under your breath, crouched over by the hockey team’s bags to try and find Bokuto’s.
In your hand was a note asking him out on a date, despite your better judgment. It’s sealed safely inside an envelope marked for Bo in cursive because even when you’re making questionable decisions, you’re doing it in style.
You always told yourself that being involved with something as brute as a hockey player would never do you any good. It became a practised sentiment until you finally noticed Bokuto for who he was.
His smile, his enthusiasm, his dedication, his biceps…
Slowly, despite your efforts, he crept into your heart and crushed it. Wait, that’s not what I mean. You developed a crush, is the more appropriate way to put it.
So you tucked the letter into a bag with a familiar hoodie hanging halfway out of it and an owl charm clipped onto the main zipper.
The damage had been done.
Later that evening, about ten minutes into your practice, you looked up to find Bokuto at the entrance. He jumped up and down until you noticed him, then pointed at the opened note in his hand and gave you a thumbs-up.
You returned it as subtly as possible, but of course, your friends saw it.
“You’re getting distracted again,” one of them hummed while skating past you. You rolled your eyes and tried to skate away when another friend passed by your side, muttering “Figures…”
