I might be ready for Spring - but Spring is not ready just yet. Yes, I feel like shaking a fist at winter and stamping my foot and sighing all day long. Because I’m ready for flowers and colour and warm breezes - NOW! How ungrateful I must seem 😒 I must apologize to Old Man Winter. I hope I never stop appreciating the tremendous cold, the magic of snow and snowflakes and icy frozen bubbles. I’m going to put my impatience back in my pocket and instead take a walk outdoors on this sunshiny February day. Patience is not simply the ability to wait - it’s how we behave while we’re waiting. ~ Joyce Meyer

Frozen Bubbles - I can’t believe it’s already time to say goodbye! We’re having what’s probably our last cold snap before Spring so I’m diving into all the things I love most about Winter. I have a few more snowstorm videos to post… And I have a mountain hike planned for Monday while there’s still a good amount of snow on the ground and frost on the trees. It’s so funny because in life I’m not a huge fan of change. You know, friends moving to another city, coworkers leaving for a new job, new construction in our neighbourhood… But the change of seasons in Nature? Gosh, bring it on! It’s literally the spice of my life. It makes me clap my hands in happiness. Jump around. Drop everything and run outside. Generally it’s the cause of all my impulsiveness and most definitely the source of all my creativity. Spring is in the air and my senses are tingling with the excitement of the changes this will bring. What’s your favourite part of saying Goodbye Winter - Hello Spring?

Sometimes gifts arrive in the harshest surroundings. The walls close in quickly when we’re down on our luck, when we think no one hears us, when we’ve run out of energy… But sometimes, at that end-of-the-road moment a glimmer appears. When I wander out into the coldest winter days it truly appears as if nothing is alive outdoors. Nothing. My breath hangs in the air like it has nowhere to go. My boots squeak in protest as they make contact with the snow. It’s a frozen lifeless desert. Then I’ll hear the faint chirp of a chickadee. How can that tiny feathered thing, smaller than the palm of my hand be out here in this harsh nothingness? Yes, I know the scientific explanation but it’s not the science I’m looking at. I’m wrapped head to toe in winter protection and this fey thing is covered in nothing but feathers, battling a fierce wind with no food source in sight. It gives me hope that the impossible is not always what it seems. Take these impossible-to-believe frozen bubbles. I’m so happy to have discovered them a few years ago. Every time I make one it’s like reaffirming the possibility of miracles. From this indistinct soapy mixture and just one breath I can create something that really shouldn’t be able to exist at all. I mean, come on, ice crystals forming on the outside of a super fragile, mostly water sphere? Impossible. Yet it’s not. On this particular day when our winter was not quite wintry enough, the bubbles froze more slowly than usual and a strange series of coloured rings formed around the tops. Otherworldly, magical and the perfect ending to the season that tests us all. Thank you, Winter, for all your gifts. You make me believe in the impossible!
