Empowering Women, Transforming Society: Dr. Hina Shah and ICECD’s Remarkable
Journey
In the annals of women’s socioeconomic empowerment, few names shine as brightly as that of Dr. Hina Shah, the visionary founder of the International Centre for Entrepreneurship & Career Development (ICECD). For decades, Dr. Shah has been at the forefront of a transformative movement, reshaping norms and challenging societal biases that have long constrained women’s potential.
Championing Change: Dr. Hina Shah’s Vision
Dr. Hina Shah embarked on her journey in the early 1980s, a time when opportunities for women to attain significant positions in a male-dominated world were scarce. Undeterred by these obstacles, her unwavering determination fueled a passionate mission to empower lakhs of women economically. It has attracted substantial investments for economic development, recognized as a ‘Center of Excellence’ by UN-ESCAP. ICECD’s comprehensive training programs have directly empowered millions of women entrepreneurs around the world. Her vision was clear: to break free from limitations imposed by society and redefine women’s roles.
ICECD: A Catalyst for Empowerment
Established in 1986, ICECD was born from Dr. Shah’s vision. It became a pioneering institution dedicated exclusively to Women Entrepreneurship Development (WED). ICECD’s innovative approach equipped women with vital entrepreneurial skills, sparking a nationwide movement to promote women-led business initiatives.
Creating Entrepreneurs, Transforming Society
ICECD’s role in society extends far beyond creating entrepreneurs; it has been a transformative force. The institution has empowered women from diverse backgrounds, including rural, urban, tribal, widowed, and disabled communities, to engage in sustainable entrepreneurship. This commitment led to these women being recognized as invaluable “economic contributors,” resulting in the formulation of special schemes and policies to support women entrepreneurs.
