Day 2 of Ichigo x Ryou weekend! I just think Ryou needs a tackle hug every so often

Everybody shut up I just realized that this “kiss” may NOT have actually happened.

We never actually SEE their lips touch, they just come really close and then Ichigo turns into a cat. “Don’t do that, jerk!” is too vague to rely on for confirmation. Why does this matter? Well, in the manga Ichigo doesn’t need to kiss anyone to turn into a cat.

Ryou explains it here when he teases her, she will turn into a cat regardless as long as her emotions run high. This is slightly different from the anime, because Ichigo actually does turn into a cat whenever kissed. So when the scene happens in the anime, though not explicitly shown it is implied that he did kiss her.

This actually gives me more peace of mind, because it really shows how Ryou respects her boundaries and autonomy more than anyone else. He teases her, but as shown in volume 4 he wouldn’t just steal a kiss from her unless he knows she returns his feelings, even under the pretense of it being “just an experiment”. 

Ichigo was actually the one that seemed more like she wanted to kiss him, and was annoyed he wasn’t serious about it 🥴

Ichigo x Ryou Weekend, Day 2 - Intimacy

Author’s note: Bear with me, I didn’t get to edit this much because I just got covid the other day and couldn’t sleep because my daughter was up crying.

A cliche trope of it’s storming outside so you can’t go home and will have to stay here tonight and oh wait there’s only one bed ??

As she entered the room, she realized that she had not considered that as Ryou lived here alone, there was only one bed. “Are you sleeping on the floor or…” 

“I’m not sleeping on the floor,” Ryou scoffed. “It’s my bed. I need my luxurious sleep in my luxurious bed.” 

Ichigo pursed her lips and crossed her arms over her chest. “You’re no gentleman making a lady sleep on the floor,” she remarked. 

“I’m not making you sleep on the floor,” Ryou gestured to a pile of clothing against the wall. Ichigo made a sour face once again. He held his hands up in mock defense. 

“You’re free to sleep on the bed,” he assured. Then, he began taking off his shirt. “With me in it.”

Ichigo willed herself to not stare at his chest and torso, distracting herself by pulling her ribbons out of her wet hair. Though, she could very well imagine what he looked like without the shirt. Afterall, she had seen the flat plane of stomach on numerous occasions. Perfectly tanned, toned, and defined… Ichigo thought to herself. What? Don’t think like that! Mortified, Ichigo mentally slapped herself, then physically slapped her cheeks.

Illuminated by the moonlight from the window, she saw Ryou smirking, and she knew that he was well aware of what she thought.

Finally, after what had felt like hours, Ryou finished pulling on a clean shirt. Ichigo released a deep breath and propelled herself straight onto the mattress. She buried her face into the pillow, hiding the blush creeping across her cheeks. 

“Stay on your side,” she said in a muffled voice. 

“Why do I get the feeling you won’t stay on yours,” he replied. Ichigo turned to face the wall, not daring to move as she felt the mattress sink with his weight. A small part of her knew that he was right. 

Knew that she had begun to memorize the scent of his fresh cologne whenever he came close. Knew that her heart lurched when he smiled at her, a smile that she returned in full. And she knew that she craved the warmth of his encompassing arms. Though Ichigo tried to bury it, she could not deny the persistent attraction she had to her boss. The incessant itch in the back of her mind that she could not get rid of.  

“Goodnight,” Ryou murmured. She peeked over her shoulder to see him covered in a blanket, lying with his back to her.

Ichigo lay still for a few minutes, fidgeting with the fabric of her shirt. The only sound in the room was the steady breathing of the blonde boy beside her. A shiver ran through her body. The room was cool, and her hair was still damp from the rain. 

“I’m cold,” she remarked, reaching over to pull the blanket over her body. Ryou, now partially uncovered by the blanket, yanked the cloth back. Ichigo let out a sneeze and dragged the blanket back towards her side of the bed.

“First you take my bed, now you take my blanket?” Ryou released a laugh, one that made Ichigo’s stomach flip. 

“Here,” she mumbled, holding the blanket out towards him. Rather than take it back to leave her exposed to the cool air, he inched closer. Now both enveloped in the blanket, the distance between them was enough to fit a slumbering cat. His hand grazed her own. 

Her breath began to grow shallow as she felt her heartbeat quicken. With how warm she felt now, Ichigo no longer needed the blanket. Through the dark, she could see the corners of Ryou’s lips curve in a smile, albeit a hesitant smile. In a leap of courage – and perhaps against better judgment – Ichigo inched closer to him. They were face to face, a mere breath away, their foreheads pressed together. 

“Ichigo,” Ryou murmured in a low voice. The pit in her stomach grew warm at the sound of her name. Wordlessly, he pulled in her, wrapping his arms around her as she lay her head against his chest. She listened to the rapid beat of his heart, sighing in content as she melted into his touch. In return, he brushed his lips against her temple and traced a finger up and down her back. A shiver ran through her spine, and so she pressed a kiss on the skin below his collarbone. 

“Goodnight, Ryou,” she said against the warmth of his chest. 

“Good night, Ichigo,” he said, tilting her chin up for her to meet his eyes. He leaned in, and her eyes fluttered shut as he brought his lips to hers.
