queer discourse is so stupid. we are all fags in the eyes of the law.
there’s a grand level of dissonance within the mind of a person whose bio says “I support nb lesbians, men dni”
Gonna start smacking people who continue to use identity to mean “position of authority” rather than as a reference point for unique needs required to be addressed under a banner of solidarity. If everyone I disagree with is actually a white cishet man until proven otherwise, my motivations and perspective and own privileges needn’t be taken into account. I am by default correct and a challenge to my stances is a challenge on my identity.
“Listen to x people” meant recognize their unique perspective as a member of x group, it did not mean “therefore they are the sole voice of their identity and disagreement is bigotry.”
Forcing people to reveal their identities and intersections to “prove” they are allowed to speak is cruel and dangerous to begin with.
And “oppressor” identities does not also mean ignorance.
I’ve been taught queer history by straight people. Cishet men fought harder for me than many supposed comrades who were queer. Not only does it isolate allies, it tries to remove people who have been in this fight longer than you simply because you assume they don’t have skin in the game.
i just, really dont understand this compulsion a lot of people seem to have for policing other people’s identities
like just... why does it matter
why does it matter one bit to you what some stranger identifies as.
It would be real nice if the identities I have weren't constant discourse topics
Ok Im dying😂😂 "Language is just a bunch of fucking sounds" should've solved the discourse a long while ago Man identity policing is the worst
U rite
Language is so fucking stupid it causes so much bullshit and we’re just making sounds.
I agree, identity policing is the worst. If anything is unnecessary it’s identity policing
What, for example, are the ethical and material implications of queer theory if its project is to dismantle all notions of identity and agency? The deconstructive turn in queer theory highlights the ways in which ideology functions to oppress and to proscribe ways of knowing, but what is the utility of queer theory on the front lines, in the trenches, on the street, or anyplace where the racialized and sexualized body is beaten, starved, fired, cursed—indeed, where the body is the site of trauma?… Because transgender people, lesbians, gays, and bisexuals of color often ground their theorizing in a politics of identity, they frequently fall prey to accusations of ‘‘essentialism’’ or ‘‘anti-intellectualism.’’ Galvanizing around identity, however, is not always an unintentional ‘‘essentialist’’ move. Many times, it is an intentional strategic choice. Cathy Cohen, for example, suggests that “queer theorizing which calls for the elimination of fixed categories seems to ignore the ways in which some traditional social identities and communal ties can, in fact, be important to one’s survival”
