My subculture is Instagram fashion and beauty influencer.
The group of people who mainly work and earn money from the internet. Including being a good roll model of a teenager or be a person who has an influence on the ideas of teenagers.
At first I look at many people. Everyone Is the owner of all clothing stores in IG I started analyzed each person has a different style and how it affects their shop.
In this place, I chose people who has their own shop on Instagram and also made a video about beauty content on Youtube. One of them is “Brinkkty”
"brinkty" because she is quite well-known in teenagers. she made her own clothing store since high school this make her well-known and convince other teenagers to follow her It is difficult for high school students to have their own clothing stores and still be famous. And this makes me very interested in him I began to search more about his subject.
“Triplebshop” which the meaning is relate to her family, her 2 sisters name beam and baby so, there are tripleB. She did everything by herself such as design, pattern, fabric, marketing by supported from her family. Her clothing shop became popular since she was in high school. That shows she is a person who has a lot of effort and intention to do what she loves.
After her shop start going well. She started to make a video on YouTube. Most of the content is about the things that she is most enjoy and good to do such as dress, makeup, travel or shopping. Brinkty has her own cloth shop on ig and she is a youtuber she is quite well known in teenagers.
I look at her base background and people that she interact with in each space like her provide fan meeting to connect with her fc She knows what she is interested in and loves to do and she will intend to do that successfully. She started doing his own clothing store on Instagram. that successfully He started doing his own clothing store. He made himself all the way from design. The selection of the pattern, the fabric, the sale, and his clothing shop became popular since he was young. That shows that he is a person who is called to have a lot of effort and intention to do
The timeline drawing of the process of how she make clothes and interaction with people show the connection map btw sampeng and siam which is the location of her shop
What is so-called a writer in Thailand can range from kids in school trying to express their problems to hip-hop artists or well known professional writers? Thailand is a relatively new country to graffiti and vandalism, so many people seek their opportunities here. They will typically present with masks and spray cans.
-Spatial-
The common places where both amateur and professional writers do their work are abandoned buildings and walls. This could get them in less trouble because no one will report them to the police. however, graffiti can be found throughout the city which they were sprayed both legally and also illegally.
The Payathai road is one of the most important and busiest streets in Bangkok. graffitis and vandalism can be found along the streets by the light poles or post boxes. one of my favorite places is Chalerm la park where they allow professional writers to come in and paint on their walls and it changes from times to times.
Cultural Clock
-Activity and Excitement chart-
(heart rate)
The activity and excitement go along together as for a graffiti writer. it has peaks and lows. this chart depicts them simultaneously. The excitement stays low and started rising as long as the process of working is there. it reaches its’ peak while doing the work and at the start of a getaway. it goes up a little again when the writer goes back and see the work.
This repeats for the second attempt. most of the activities are the same but it would not be as exciting as the first attempt because it is very late and it would be a lot safer as a writer. fewer people will see a writer doing work on the street. everything is faster than the first attempt because it is a lot easier.
The group of people who have extreme taste in music.
Visual: This group’s clothing style came originally from bikers club which black leather jacket has been worn and turned into iconic material for clothing for this subculture for another generation heavy metal bands.
But in reality people in this subculture dress normally and work as a musician, youtuber, music store’s staff and recording studio.
Satanism: Is the core of this subculture. People always misunderstand them as a devil and sacrificing human. It’s a symbol of self dependent which you follow your feeling to do anything you love to do.
After knowing about the place the people have been going in this subculture.I created the timetable to be an example of how to spent their day between working and enjoying themselves.
I went to Heavy metal bar called “The rock pub” in Bangkok to engaged with real situation and people in this subculture
The event is divided into 5 parts which each parts has it own aesthetic.
Punk is a youth-rebellion subculture, a reaction against societal-conformity, consumerism, and political oppression. Thailand has had more coups than any other countries. Over a 78 years period, it has experienced over 19 military dictatorships. Resulting in the emergence of the Bangkok Punks in the mid-70′s as a reaction against the Thammasat Massacre event; when students rose up against the military dictator. Since then, Punk became a medium of political expression for the Thai people.
This identity map documents was based on existing punks that was interviewed, each of them representing different ideologies of a punk.
1. A Silent Protest (Shirt, 35, Salesman and Guitarist)
Punks uses their body as a protest machines through piercing and tattooing. In Thai culture where public political comments are still restricted heavily with censorship laws and regulations both digitally and physically, body as a visual protest became a medium used by punks. Most punks are from the middle-working class population, a political activist who experiences inequality and believes in Anarchism, the elimination of man’s form of power.
2. Destroy to Create (Anche, 32, Nurse and Singer) (Missy, 28, Chemist)
Fashion is one of punks most important aspects. Punk is self creation, where each layers reflects on different ideas of politics, consumerism, capitalism, and commercialism. A safety pin, for example, satirically comment about the consumerist culture.
3. The D.I.Y Ethics (Job, 26, Hairdresser)
The Do-It-Yourself culture keeps Punks alive. This is also a reflection on the consumerist culture, why do you need to buy it when you can do it yourself? It is tied to the Anti-consumerism ideology, using existing system and processes dependence of established social structure.
4. Family (Kae, 50, The Punk Shop)
Punk is a family for the misfits of the society. They interact closely developing a collective bond through generations. But because of their political undertone, their gathering spaces are categorized into : Mobilized autonomous spaces and Permanent collective spaces.
5. Revival (Nicco, 35, Punk BKK Facebook)
The digital age gave a revival to the punk community, connecting and distributing the culture worldwide. It became a network platform for gatherings and events to be promoted.
6. Self-Expression (Mie, 25, Online Blogger)
Punk Music was all about audiences reaction and interactions. Moshing is punks style of dancing, it exhilarates the feeling of camaraderie, giving a big sense of community and also a medium for self-expression against the oppression in everyday’s life.
7. Secrecy (Surachet, 32, Marketing Director)
There are two types of punks, one that lives an expressive way of life, and one in secrecy. Occupations, social acceptance, and safety is highly influence in both of them.
From this research, the project develops further on the political aspect of Bangkok Punks. The correlation between punks and the protest subculture and how both worlds could be integrated in order to comment and question about Thailand’s freedom of speech and the reoccurring political issue. Also, the idea of monumentality, and how monuments becomes a safe space for the punks.
