Jason Brown, Love Is A Bitch
Because Jason Brown needs some positivity right now, here’s a cute story: I went to IdF with my dad last year. (And just because it makes this story even sweeter in light of Yagudin’s comments, let me mention that my dad grew up in Russia.)
Now, my dad used to watch figure skating in the past, but he’s not actively following it right now, so for most of the skaters at IdF, he had no idea who they were. He knew who Evgenia is and I’d told him about Rika, but that was pretty much it. He’d never heard of Jason or seen him skate before. When he first saw Jason skate (and win the SP), my dad was absolutely amazed and kept talking about how Jason’s the best skater in the competition, how none of the other men were that flexible or could do a Biellmann spin, etc. When we left after the gala, he again said that Jason was his favourite skater in the competition. When I was watching Worlds months later, he asked me to just show him Jason’s performance “but not if he fell, then I don’t want to see it.” Nowadays he doesn’t remember Jason’s name, but sometimes asks me how “that one skater he likes so much” is doing.
