zenith – is there a genre or sound you’d like to put out with your group in the future?

there are still thoughts, ideas that make san’s bones vibrate in excitement. once upon a time, his solo debut had been among them. so had debuting in a group. so had olympus’ initial idea of a dance unit. the problem with all of those things is that they seem to end in disappointment. san half-wonders if it’s that way for everyone. if they’re all just lying to each other, pretending to be happy. pretending they’re fulfilling dreams, growing as people. you’d think he’d learn by now to stop wanting things. you’d think he’d learn by now to realize that these fragmented dreams won’t solve his problems. won’t suddenly make him realize that life is enjoyable. that life is worth all that pain, all that effort. you’d think he’d learn. but he never does. 

he wants, and he wants so achingly for things that just seep poison to palms when he finally gets his hands on them.

san sucks in a breathe. contemplates, briefly, on a generic canned response, or something truer. usually he might opt for the former. but he’s still angry, a crackle of fire hidden behind thin skin. so he decides to tumble out with the truth. to push a finger back toward midas. maybe one day they’ll listen. maybe one day they’ll let him do what he wants, really wants. “i’m actually. ah, i don’t know if i can say this, but i’m actually really interested in other dance styles. many of my fans don’t know this, but i’ve actually been really invested in modern and contemporary dance for a while now.” he stops, sips at the water perched to the right of his hand. tries to figure out how far he wants to push the limits that cage him. he’s feeling stubborn. he pushes further.

“actually, i wanted, originally, to have my solo be something that incorporated that. i’d really like a song with a lot of instrumentals. something that allows me more…creativity? like i said before, with atlas’ song. less…dance track, maybe. not that i don’t love it. i really did love my solo. but there’s so much more i want to explore as an artist. there are stories i want to tell. with lyrics, or with dance. i feel like there’s still time for me to grow, there are parts of me that i haven’t been able to show to the fans, parts that i really want them to see.” he nods again. he feels a bit like a bobble-head. he should stop. “i’m hoping that in the future i’ll get to explore that. maybe if i keep asking.” he flashes a smile. it looks shy. a few people at midas are probably going to be livid, but maybe they’ll at least give him a solo stage at a concert if enough of his fans kick up a fuss. he’s starting to care less and less about what they’ll threaten him with for misbehaving. there’s not much left to take.

✨ what’s a song by another group that you wished you’d put out instead? 

Jowi tilts her head to the side in consideration, dark hair spilling over her shoulders. “Of course, there are a lot of iconic songs that I would like to have been part of, but if I’m thinking of something more recent....” she trails off, “Heaven sunbaenims always have really pretty songs, but I think I don’t have the singing skills for that just yet.” There’s a laugh now, peppered into the statement at her own expense. After a second of thought more she adds, “And Honey sunbaenims put out really fun and cute songs and that might be a nice change. Something a little bit more silly than we’ve been putting out lately as CHERRY BOMB! you know?” Now, however, she grins slightly, a widening mischievous, “But honestly, I like this dark concept direction we’ve been going lately. So I think if I could put out any other song, I would have wanted to do Nightmare’s new single! It’s so exciting and powerful. I’ve loved listening to their music and am always really eager to hear their new releases. The choreography is pretty impressive too. I think they have a sound that is incredibly unique in the industry right now, which is admirable. In such an over-saturated industry I can really appreciate their intensity and courage to explore something atypical. I’m sure the girls must be really proud of themselves and what they’re doing. I hope we can have a collaboration someday. Maybe management will read this bit and give us a call, right? Make sure to put it in the article. ” Her grin is playful and she shoots finger guns towards the interviewer, an expression that the man will jot down in the article as being exceptionally endearing, one that encapsulates the vibrant energy of the girl. She’s an excellent actress, at this point, selling AJ to the masses, but at least the content of her sentiments was true enough. She’ll give herself a pass for that.

magazine meme: who is your greatest inspiration or strength?

this one is so easy it makes jiyeon smile.

"first, i would have to say my sister." when she debuted jiyeon was given the stage name of sora because they didn't want her to be instantly associated to her sister, to keep the whole experimental aspect of nightmare... experimental. but a namedrop here and there never hurt anybody and now, two years and four comebacks later, jiyeon knows that it's best if people know who she is, who her sister is. it keeps them talking, keeps her name, and nightmare's, on search engines and once she even trended for whole two hours ( a win to someone like her ). "she is my number one fan and she always supports me, no matter what." and it's not a lie, jungah is her fan and supports her like no one else, mostly because she was the one to throw jiyeon to the wolves, but still.

"of course i do, it makes me more famous."

they shared a smile and jungah looked pleased to see her sister was learning the celebrity game. )

"and of course our coven are my biggest strength. it sounds like a cliche, but without them i wouldn't be here." idol 101 tip, make the fans think they know you, that you are close, friends even. "they don't need to support us, but they still listen to our songs and always leave messages of encouragement. i don't know what i did to deserve this love, but i'm really thankful." this is the warmest jiyeon has ever been in an interview, and she knows it will reflect good on her, that her fans will feel how her love is real, and it sort of is. they are not close, they are not friends, but jiyeon is thankful for them, she is not that bad.

         HE  CAN  ALMOST  HEAR  CULTWOO’S  tandem  groaning  as  he  says  the  same  two  words:  “  i’m  boring.  ”  it’s  an  answer  the  nation’s  heard  a  thousand  times  over;  at  this  point,  it  has  crossed  the  boundary  from  self  -  deprecating  into  downright  obnoxious.  but  his  words  are  true,  at  least  in  jianhong’s  eyes.  beyond  being  an  idol,  he  doesn’t  have  much  going  for  himself.  ever  since  imperial’s  hiatus,  he  devoted  his  entire  being  to  his  job,  to  being  foolproof  in  his  work  ethic  so  that  no  one  could  ever  criticize  him  for  not  caring  again.  but  that  isn’t  quite  accurate;  he’s  done  some  things  besides  work  since  imperial  came  back.  like  ...  go  to  a  convenience  store  with  his  friend.  and  he  went  outside.  looked  at  the  outside.  saw  some  birds.  life.  that  kind  of  stuff.

         “  i  used  to  be  really  into  photography  ---------  i  don’t  go  out  as  often  anymore  during  the  day  because  it’s  easier  to  get  recognized,  but  sometimes  i  go  out  with  my  camera  at  night  to  see  what  the  moon  lets  me  capture.  it’s  not  anything  fancy,  i  just  kind  of  point  and  shoot.  ”  he  lifts  his  hands  to  pantomime  the  action,  then  clicks  his  tongue  for  punctuation.  “  other  than  that,  i  do  a  lot  of  reading.  it  helps  inspire  me,  poetry  especially.  i’m  very  fond  of  percy  bysshe  shelley’s  works.  lord  byron,  too.  i  suppose  i  enjoy  the  romantics  in  general.  i  do  wonder  --------  does  it  translate  to  my  music  ?  ”
