Balto: The Canine Hero

So... I gotta admit. For a while now, I've been cross with Balto for "stealing Togo's glory" at saving the children of Nome. Togo led the longest, hardest, most dangerous section of the Antitoxin Run on the Iditerod Trail. HE should have gotten the accolades that Balto did.

But I only ever knew half of the story. This told me the other half. 

Togo did a damn fine job. He *did* lead his team over the longest, hardest stretch. But Balto did just as much in his own way, and arguably did the most dangerous miles of that run. Balto really DOES deserve his status as a Hero. Especially with what he was forced to endure later on in life because of jealousy and greed.

I will remember the story of Balto, full and complete, as it should be.
