HOLY SHIT. MY GOODNESS. THIS TOOK ME LIKE 8 HOURS OF HYPERFIXATION AND IM SO FREAKING HAPPY WITH HOW THESE ALL TURNED OUT
I just really like flippable illustrations that can also stand on their own, you know?
This is what it looks like from Simon’s POV, which. Ohhhhh my God, I'm so proud of the skin shading on this! Genuinely, shading things like cheekbones, skin colour maps, and eyelids are hella difficult for me, and this piece has been one of the proudest ones in terms of those skills being put to use. Also, for Simon specifically, I actually really like how the clothes turned out because I was not very certain about how I was drawing them. Simon’s got the whole fit. Meanwhile, Grace is just kinda wearing a t-shirt, and then he's good and you don't really have to do much else.
Also, if you can't tell, I have no idea how to draw beards. These two hyperfixations have forced me to learn how to beard.
OKAY TIME FOR GRACE. My god this part of the illustration was so fucking fun to draw.
For starters, I have never drawn a high-detail Ryland Grace before this piece, and especially not when he's based on Ryan gosling. I have absolutely no idea how to draw Ryan Gosling, so this was partly me stylizing Grace, and partly me pulling up a reference picture and doing my darn best lol.
The hair was another difficulty, solely because I have no clue how the hell Grace's haircut works in the movie. And of course, noses, my biggest enemy when it comes to side profiles. I had to look at so many references to try getting his nose right, and even now I'm not entirely sure i did it right lol.
NOW FOR THE BACKGROUND? I wanted to include three components in each drawing: the stars, the planet that they're associated with the most throughout their respective films. I was originally gonna draw Earth, because that's Grace's whole thing, his love for the Earth, but honestly, I really wanted to try drawing Adrian's atmosphere. it looks so freaking pretty in the film, and I just. I couldn't leave that unpainted! it was super fun to paint when i did it, and the shading was so so so cool to do.
The stars were an obvious part of it, and I always tend to go a little overboard on stars in my illustrations, but I mainly did it because I wanted to have the Petrova Line stand out clearly. Maybe it doesn't stand out that clearly, but good lord does it look so cool!

Genuinely, the hair and the beard were still the most difficult parts for me to draw, but I was so fucking proud of the eyelids and the eyes! It's a little hard to notice, but I decided to make Simon's eyes a very, very deep blue, to mimic Grace's pale blue eyes! Although given the shading, I'm fairly certain of the fact that they look brown from a distance still.
Bro's clothes, for maybe 5 minutes, pissed me right the fuck off for drawing. Like. How do you draw that much drip on a singular guy???? The answer is apparently doing a lot of fucking around with lines - I ended up not really detailing the clasp-thingy on the harness because its just. I was like 6 hours into drawing and I did not have the fucking patience atp.
AT-5 was actually the more difficult planet to draw, for a couple of reasons: I don't know how to draw rocky surface like moons, and I don't know how to draw ocean lines from an orbital view. Doing the rocky terrain ended up being a little easier once I started grading things by depth. The blood oceans came a little afterwards, and from there, it ended up being easy.
The red line, what would be Simon's version of the Petrova line, are ARTERIES. because i'm a huge nerd and I love drawing arteries. Alongside that, I added a significantly less starry background, with more cloudy stars to look like they're fading away.

i know overwatch has a problem making skins for non WHITE characters, i had the great idea to come up with a concept, forgetting that i just cant draw LOL . i saw the new collabs skins coming out for nier autamata and it was just white ppl and like soj is a baddie even if i hate her in game , another thing is that they have a problem making old characters young… but i feel this is acceptable bc she quite literally has NOTHING CUTE !!!!
