I def think it is incest and it is bad. But I have to wonder why people weren't calling for boycotts of future fire emblem titles or nintendo products afaik. As a Fire Emblem fan I know a lot of us look the other way at the "underage" romance options, and now the incest. But tbh I ... wish The Arcana devs had said something. I feel like there would be no correlation if they had.

tbh i’m not sure i can adequately answer this myself because holy shit yeah

it probably has a lot to do with the fact that the companies in charge of fire emblem are pretty big-name companies, and these games are so big (and irt awakening and fates, basically revived a dying franchise) that a boycott wouldn’t really do a whole lot, because its such a long-standing and popular franchise, there’s a lot of voices that clamor for attention, and, unfortunately, a lot of them are totally a-okay with this kind of thing, so, regardless, these companies are making money. it’s not good or fair, but that’s what it comes down to, and it’d take a pretty big outcry to rock the boat

and in regards to the arcana, i think the rub really lies in the fact that this is a game with a strong emphasis (and almost an entire basis) on being “inclusive and safe for everyone” and that’s why people are so upset– and the devs interact p openly with a lot of fans, and now having them clam up and basically “no comment” this whole debacle is really, really, really worrying. it’s a small company that’s pushing forward content for an LGBT audience, and while it’s absolutely not fair to hold LGBT creators to a higher standard than big-name companies its also not gonna help anyone to stay quiet.

like yeah you can’t claim that “representation matters” and then claim that “fiction doesn’t affect reality” in the same breath and not get some MAJOR side-eye

i really, really hope the devs take this seriously, and address it properly with the severity it deserves and don’t just try to sweep it under the rug, though, especially considering how much this game means to so many underrepresented fans :<
