THEM CRAWLING BACK TO EACH OTHER WILL GET ME EVERY TIME. i've had this idea for ages about them breaking up & being out of contact for like 5 or 6 years and always watching each other in the news. and for the first couple years it's all bitter angry resentment, (why is jimmy dating this wildly famous guy when he never wanted to go public with lister? why is lister doing interviews advocating for therapy now when he always said he didn't need it? why couldn't he have gotten his shit together when he was with me?) but as they mature & time passes & they heal, it just becomes hope that the other is happy & sadness that they aren't in each other's lives anymore. but then they're at a party at the same time and catch each other's eyes across the room and AAAUUUUGGGGHHHHHHHH. it's charli xcx party 4 u, it's the final scene in la la land, it's céline dion All Coming Back To Me Now.......
i never write it because the idea of them actually breaking up going their separate ways is so wholly unacceptable to me. like it would never happen. but i am constantly thinking about What If
They'd go through a period of trying to be friends, and then they'd have a big fallout AGAIN, and then queue everything else you said. Big cinematic scene and everything and UGH. Poor rowan is the middle man, but he gets his happy ending 100%. He gets married and has a family while Jimmy and Lister are writing albums about each other and being petty and still in love
