An Oxfam supported weaving project in Samoa is giving women the opportunity to learn new skills and revive a cultural tradition. Rural women were keen to take part in the project run by Oxfam’s partner WIBDI, because making mats enables them to stay at home with their children and provides them with an income in areas where there are no jobs, no ways to earn money. And the fine mats reach a premium price because of their exceptional quality.
