I'm really excited that If There Is Hell Below featured H*CKHOUND as one of their favorite albums of the year. I made this album two summer's ago as a way of coping with the loss of a really dear friend of mine the summer prior—of feeling frustrated and alienated by the way we think about death and the body, and by my inability to express any of my sadness. It's been a really long process, but the record is finally coming out on tape through King Pizza Records this Saturday. 2014 has been the strangest in a long run of strange years, and i've been struck these past few days by how it's coming, strangely still, to a neat conclusion. All the loose ends of the past few years feel like they are falling spontaneously into order, and the release of this tape is no exception. We're playing a release show at Don Pedro this Saturday, for all y'all NYC folk who might be interested in coming. You can also pre-order the tape here.

Curtis Mayfield -- [Don't Worry] If There's Hell Below We're All Gonna Go [1970]
A trippy psych intro with a raw synth line opens up into a winding flow of reverb harmonies and groove... also, there are congas and violas. On such a fantastic album, filled with nothing but solid jams. This song sets the pace at track one and it's a bit hard to image it only getting better from there. Sorry; that's my Curtis rant for the month.
