3. someone they miss

Buffy has lost a lot of people. They're either dead or they left. And yes, Angel and Spike are in that group, but we're going to leave them and other love interests out.

The person Buffy misses most is her mother, Joyce. It was so quick and out of the blue. Buffy didn't even get to say goodbye. Joyce just had an aneurysm, which was another double whammy because she'd had a tumor removed and they all thought she was fine. There are times where Buffy misses Joyce so much it's sometimes hard to function, but most of the time, Buffy is able to think of Joyce and smile.

As much as she doesn't want to, Buffy misses her father, Hank. He was a great father to her and Dawn and he made them feel loved. Then, he ran off to Spain with his secretary and he stopped contacting them. He didn't even call when Joyce died. Regardless, Buffy still misses him, but Giles is a better father figure.

A third and final mention that needs to be acknowledged is Tara. Even though it wasn't mentioned much, Buffy did have a friendship with Tara that wasn't just because she was Willow's girlfriend. In fact, while Tara and Willow were broken up, Buffy reached out to her from time to time. Even though she didn't mean to tell Tara about her relationship with Spike, she was the only person that Buffy felt comfortable knowing about it because she knew she wouldn't judge. She visited Tara's gravesite a lot before Sunnydale imploded.
