ok anon not to be dramatic but I'd die for you. it's a tad long but I don't have read more so sorry

so the Carters are the royal family of a kingdom called Hyring (ty kade for the misspelled words 😌). Marsier is the capital. 5 years before the main events, hyring was in a war and losing, until someone murdered the queen. the king went mad, drove the other kingdoms forces back and gained some land, then ended the war. main event time, the king has gotten more power hungry and thrown the kingdom into more unrest, so he makes a deal with the big bad guy (henceforth bbg) to gain more power. bbg essentially has control over him and ""kills"" (he really kidnaps but everyone believes them to be dead) the two oldest, Damien and Basil.

enter Marius. he's the third oldest and bc he is, he hasn't had any heir training and is overall p sheltered. he has a singular guard, who just so happens to be his best friend, Elton. she is essentially the only reason Katie and everyone else haven't murdered Marius yet, bc Elton is magical 🧚✨✨. the king gets madder and madder and begins to talk of restarting the war by the end of the year. the bbg wants Mar and Katie out of the picture so he can just completely take over, and so after a particularly close attack on Mar, Elton takes him and they run
