"Huh, so random fact I just learned but apparently in the 1830s, tomato ketchup was sold as a medicine, claiming to cure ailments like diarrhea, indigestion, and jaundice. Given how little was known about tomatoes in the era.... especially their acidity which lead to the wealthy thinking they were poisonous but was actually lead in the pewter which would leech into the food, resulting in lead poisoning."
