I would like to elaborate on something. You know the saying ‘not every rectangle is a square but every square is a rectangle’? (I think that’s how the saying goes) Same thing. Not every wife is a mob wife but every mob wife is a wife.
How I distinguish this is that if a wife is overly involved in the mob activities then you have a mob wife, however if the husband just happens to be a mafia boss and the wife is not involved in the mafia activity than that is just a wife.
Anyway:
I would love to read Mafia Boss Natsu x Mob Wife Gray but in the sense that Natsu was born into the mafia. Igneel is the head honcho, Zeref took over one branch of the business and everyone expected Natsu to take over another so he did. Except he really doesn’t give a shit about any of it. He’s about as uninvolved as he can be while not getting in trouble with his big brother or father because he is truly not about the mafia life.
Flash forward to him meeting, dating and telling Gray about his mafia business the night before they get engaged and Gray doesn’t care. In fact as soon as Gray finds out, and is officially married into the family he is immediately getting more involved. Any business deals that are falling through or shipments that aren’t going out because of Natsu’s neglect? Gray is there.
He is pulling this branch of the family business out of the trenches simply by paying attention. Eventually people start deferring to Gray for problems instead of Natsu, and Gray is slated to inherit Natsu’s portion of the Igneel’s assets in the will in place of Natsu. Gray is “Boss” to Natsu’s used to be subordinates and Natsu is now “Boss’s Husband”
(Crucially this dynamic would not work the other way around, Natsu cannot be a mob wife: he simply would not care enough to get involved, and even if he did it would most likely go up in flames immediately)
